We lucked into a sizey swell in Ballina and I rode some of the biggest waves I've ridden on foil... Thanks for the whips @harleyclifford8537 and @Alexhayess What a hoot! Filmed by Ben Tayler / @foilfilms

@@misterbennetts boss! I got my foil setup yesterday. Tried to start in Wategos but I got too scared of the waves. Hard to get into this only by my own, when is the next retreat? You know any foil school around Byron?. I appreciate the help mate 💚

1:47 would it be possible to pump in the flats and then hop over the whitewater and pump back out?
@misterbennetts Жыл бұрын
On a small day yes, I do that all the time. But on a big day like this, it’s not possible. Whitewash is too big and there’s so much water moving around.

Do you think having surfing experience is needed to do this? Or,just as well having none or some skateboard/snowboard experience? Or best having none and this being. The first thing u get on to ride.
@misterbennetts11 ай бұрын
It’s not needed, but it’s gonna help a lot in terms of positioning when paddling for waves. If you’re just towing it’s not as necessary as you’ll just be whipped onto the wave.

So, is your board attached to you via a leash in case you eat it, or is the goal just never to make a mistake? If you do have a leash, is that not dangerous in and of itself? (I have never done this; so, I am just curious.) I saw in some later portions of the video that you have a leash. Might that be dangerous if you eat on one of those big waves? (It looks like, when you ate it on the last wave, that you kicked the board away from you in hopes of not having the wave put it into you.)
@misterbennetts Жыл бұрын
Yeh I usually always wear a leash, last thing you want is your board washed up on the rocks. Or for it to hit someone (although there was no one out this day cause it was so big).
@AnswersFromGod_com Жыл бұрын
@@misterbennetts That makes sense, but I have had one of my boards break on a big wave day in Southern California, and I definitely did wanted to release myself from it, but even though I was in great shape, the force of the water was such that I could not reach down to rip off my lease strap. Also, I have talked to many big wave surfers, and many of them do not use a leash (perhaps for that reason?). Thus, I thought that it might be dangerous for you to be connected to your board if you ate it. Also, I would think that you would never want to risk having your board pushed into you by a huge wave. Anyway, Yah willing, I want to try foil surfing, one day. It looks like a lot more action than regular surfing -- kind of like kiteboarding when there is wind.
