I was about 6. Dad had left us. I was sitting on the living room carpet, watching my mother in the kitchen in her flowered apron, staring out the window, and singing this song as the LP played in the background. It's a memory that has never left me.

Janis is one of those talents where the word "genius" doesn't even do her justice. Still waiting for the Kennedy Center to acknowledge her and for the R&R Hall of Fame to induct her. It's insane that she's never been given her due. One of the greatest songwriters of my lifetime.

My mom introduced me to this amazing writer/singer when I was a child. The "Between the Lines" LP playing was a regular staple in our house. Janice along with Johnny Mathis, Barbara Streisand, Millie Jackson and so many others & genres. My mom died suddenly a week after turning 49yr old and has been gone for 26yrs now but, whenever I listen to this wonderful woman sing, I am transported back in time and I smile. Thank You Janice Ian for the gift of remembrance.

The song does not grow old, those of us who were there then, and a decade or two before. We have our own stories, and it is winter now. For many of us, who have lost so much in the passing years, we do sit alone.

I left home in 1980 to join the Army. My mother, divorced seven years earlier was left alone with her dogs and a large house to look after. I thought of her every time that I heard this song.

I can't remember exactly what I did, but I think I wrote to Columbia records and suggested Frank Sinatra record this song, 46 years later its just as breath-taking as when I first heard it. Thanks, Janis!

I really don't understand why Janis Ian isn't as widely known and celebrated as Carole King or Bob Dylan or Paul Simon or Joni Mitchell or Neil Young. As In The Winter demonstrates, her songs are every bit as insightful and exquisitely crafted as any of the best of those other singer-songwriters. She's been prolific through the past six decades, producing album after album of memorable songs. Her biggest hits - At Seventeen, Jesse, Stars and others - are justifiably seen as classics. Yet somehow Janis has never quite received the acclaim she truly deserves. Why?!

Can understand the drumming comments , don't watch the video and the drumming doesn't seem to intrude as much , it's like the mind focuses you're attention on his drumming
