thanks for joining me on my long journey to becoming a psychologist.
sorry that there are no captions, the editing is weird and the ending is so abrupt. basically i have no storage on my laptop, so i had to edit on my phone and it is such a pain and this is the best i could do (until i have the funds to upgrade)
in this video, i take you through the last week of semester 1 of my psychology master's degree. sorry i keep staring at myself, i film on my iphone and ngl it's kind of hard not too. anyways the things i talk about in this video are always my opinion and are subject to change!

I’ve never related to anything more, I’m a 4+2 provisional also in Brisbane and I am so burnt out and have no idea what the heck I’m doing I can barely afford my supervision sessions or my own psych, and had a my first parent cancel all sessions on me. It’s such an exhausting career path, and I’m yet to meet one of us who isn’t struggling with their own mental health looool

Oh wow, I feel for you (or as much as someone who has never done a psychology Masters can). Kudos to you for juggling so many things (and so you should feel proud of yourself!) Paid work on top of a very demanding and emotionally draining, even if rewarding, degree is full on. No wonder you’re feeling burnt out. I’ve friends who did the clinical psych program and were completely burnt out from it (and still semi-recovering from it). They were/are treading water. I think you’re brave to be so candid about your struggles. It helps normalise how even people training to be psychologists struggle too (especially for people currently in psychology Masters programs or who will be in the future). Moreover, your capacity to recognise when you’re struggling and could benefit from psychological services yourself shows great self awareness. I mean, psychologists (provisional or otherwise) need help too. I do feel sad that it’s not financially feasible in your case though. Personally when psych services aren’t in my budget, I sometimes resort to free helplines e.g., Beyondblue, etc. It’s obviously not the same as an ongoing therapeutic relationship but it’s still something. Anyway, thinking of you and thank you so much for this video!

Thank you EL F for this beautiful comment ❤️ Its truely the narrative of so many psychologists in training who are living below/at the poverty, struggling with their own mental health, juggling families, trying to work and actually trying to help people as a prov psych. I wish I knew how intense this course was going to be prior to starting. If I knew, there would be alot of things I would do differently. I definitely have spoken to other psychologists who are so burned out from masters and still have not fully recovered years later. I’m in such a privileged position and am so grateful to be here, but it is hard. I really appreciate the time you took to write this and the advice around seeking psych support ❤️

@@yash9801 Aw, it’s clearly a very difficult juggling act for so many prov psychs. The poverty struggle is real! The fact that you know psychs who have not fully recovered from masters burn out years later speaks volumes about the intensity of the course. The path to become a registered psych, no matter how beautiful and meaningful the career, sure isn’t an easy one. Thinking of you ❤️
