Its an interesting satire, funny story and good attempt, but I have no belief that the system can save itself, even if we do follow the frog. I am not naive. Nevertheless doing a little bit can help, the world can only be changed through a revolution, of mind and a complete restructuring of how we do things.
@skeecats10 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately we are the cause. These same follow the frog companies, telling us to buy their products because they put a sticker with a frog on it! How does that change anything? I have lived over 30 years on this earth and I have yet to see any company bother with anything besides profit. I have seen the same companies ship jobs to other countries because those countries minimum wage is lower than the US, same companies helping clear out forests to grow coffee, they wont mind if child labor is used and will pay off the press to keep things quiet. Same companies which did this: playingintheworldgame.files.wordpress.com/2012/09/20679physiciansl.jpg

Except for if you actually researched those corporations parent companies, which the mindless masses never actually for, and marketing depends on that.... you'd learn that nearly all of those companies were built by GMO, chemical laden monoculture agriculture that destroys the land.... ON TOP of being responsible for Palm Oil plantations: UNILEVER. Corrupt as hell.

I can imagine lots of people loving this video, because it helps them sustain the illusion, that they are not wasting their lives on boring jobs, and that those who go out there and try to make a difference are just silly treehuggers. That they can just continue their meaningless lives with good conscience, as long as they buy these products.
@BjornIn1979 Жыл бұрын
I think you totally missed the message of the video. It's not encouraging people to keep their boring jobs and consume shitty products while feeling good about themselves .. It's basically saying if you give two shits about the rainforest, at least buy a product that isn't involved in the deforestation and destruction of the Rianforest. I don't think it matters if your job is an international spy or a mail sorter in a basement of small town accounting office.

The campaign is great but the rainforrest alliance isnt subject to extern evaluation. It is basically a brand created by companies to have a cheap trade of for looking good. They have very few demands on the production of goods. For example they have an extensive use of pesticides which most other enviroment-brands doesn't approve of. It's important to choose enviromental friendly products but this isnt the brand that you are looking for! Look for fairtrade, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainforest_Alliance

You're right; I feel like it's better than nothing, but the video suggests that as long as you're buying certified, all of the problems disappear. The reality is much more complex than just buying Fair Trade or Rainforest Certified. We really have no idea how much money goes to farmers or the final impact. The idea that's always struck me is paying those who make their living clearing the rain forest (ranchers, etc) to instead conserve it. Sustainable products from the rainforest [and income] will be available for the locals, the world will have a carbon sink and biodiversity; seems like a win-win.

Of course consumerism is the answer. In order to stop *consuming* the rain forest, you need to be a *consumer* of our products that costs twice as much as they should. And the only way to lower the cost of products is to continue to be a *consumer* to keep money circulating and boost the economy. So what they're really saying is "BUY STUFF! IT'S YOUR MORAL OBLIGATION! IT'S YOUR DUTY TO YOUR COUNTRY AND YOUR PLANET!" Also, it's nice how this commercial plays the race card like "You're not going to be the white savior dork" when if anything, you could be using your white privilege to influence the government that is bulldozing right the fuck over indigenous people. Seriously? This is the best you got? Just buy more stuff I don't need? That's all I have to do and then sit on my ass and enjoy a nice hot cup of overpriced coffee harvested by the exploited people who live in the same region my dollars are supposed to save? So by contributing to a capitalistic economy that exploits indigenous crop workers by keeping them on the bottom so they can support the bloated luxurious lifestyle that America has (compared to their lifestyle) I will somehow be saving indigenous crop workers who have their villages displaced and bulldozed? Amazing!
