6 жыл бұрын

A couple years ago Max unexpectedly became a minor celebrity, entering a whole new world of experiences, etiquette and awkward situations. Here are the funniest, weirdest and most insightful parts of the journey and what it has revealed to him about human nature. Max Joseph is a filmmaker who grew up in New York, lives in Los Angeles, and shoots all over the world. He is perhaps best known as the co-host of the MTV reality TV series entitled “Catfish: The TV Show” which investigates the murkier end of the online dating world. He has written, directed, and produced over 70 short films that have screened at Sundance, Telluride, and SXSW. Max’s short film “Follow the Frog” was featured as one of TED’s Ads Worth Spreading in 2013. He most recently co-wrote and directed the film WE ARE YOUR FRIENDS starring Zac Efron and Emily Ratajkowski. He is also a frequent collaboroter with KZbin filmmaker Casey Neistat. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Been watching Catfish since the start and never, ever thought of Max as a sidekick. It has always been an equal partnership, and a fine one at that. His no nonsense attitude to the catfishers is a reality check that makes me laugh each week.

I think Max's work on Catfish has been so helpful for so many people in this country who needed help with relationship issues. I think his work on this show was so much more meaningful and impactful than any movie or anything else really. He helped out with something this country needs so desperately: Help with relationship issues. People just don't get the training in self-esteem and relationships that they need in this country. And he was so good at it: He and Nev both were so helpful to so many. Look at all the homicides around relationships and subsequent marriages. I feel stories like the O.J. Simpson case and countless stories like that just don't have to be if the right healthy relationship training were available.

You could get him to come to you. All you need to do is wait for him to go back on catfish, then create a fake profile and get someone to fall madly in love with you, and refuse to see them in person.

I love MAX! He is the realist to Nev's optimism. Max calls BS, and gets tough with the Catfish and he has the absolute best facial expressions on the show!!!! Each season Nev, is getting better at being more skeptical with these Catfish. I missed Max when he was filming his movie. The substitute Maxes were OK but can't fill Max's shoes~! I keep hoping I will run into Max and Nev at an airport/airplane, cafe or at a park. HAHA!

I love Max too! I think he did an invaluable service to mankind on that show. So many in our culture need help with self-esteem issues, relationship issues and how to conduct a successful and meaningful life. He could really do great things in these areas if he were to get back on Catfish with Nev or another similar type of show.

Catfish is a public service and a warning for the gullible population that relies on JUST the internet for personal relationships. It teaches that knowing real, physical people is far better than relying upon photos and words alone. I hope Max can get on the VIP list he hopes for.

who would want to know what its like to be a tv show minor celebrity about max ???????....the show he was working on with Zak Ephron that he left cat fish for fell flat and got very poor ratings, so what does that tell you about how talented he is???.,,.,,, says alot!.......,,.Max is very boring as a speaker,...what is he there to say?...he acts like hes grasping for words and I do hope he didnt get paid very much to talk there about nothing!....I wouldnt want to have paid money to hear him talk so much but say so little! It would have been betterif he and Nev had both attended and spoke about the most shocking catfish ever in the show!.....This is so embarrasing to see him giving a talk about nothing interesting...once again, another bomb for Max!........

This is just some half grade actor / writer talking about his ego for 20 minutes. Even if you're someone actually famous like Beyonce, doing a TED talk centered around your "celebrity", what it means to the world, how your "struggle" is is unique and important, is just narcissistic and embarrassing

that's the beauty of politics, tho. you may not like it or agree but politics allows freedom of expression/speech and means he can wears what he likes. if you're right leaning (which it seems you are, considering you don't like max's style) then you'd be applauding the fact that freedom of expression works, you can say this comment, he can wear what he wants, that's the beauty of what politics is all about

@@ugh4387 it's not the beauty of politics, you mean it's the beauty of freedom. And clearly as a conservative I have zero problem with his right to do so.
