Illidan was locked up for two reasons: 1) because after the whole world just fought a huge war over Ashzara and the Highborne utilziing the Well of Eternity to summon demons. Illidan created another Well of Eternity immediately after they destroyed the first one. (So instead of destroying it, they planted a tree on top of it and hoped nobody would notice) 2) Illidan betrayed the forces of Azeroth and sided with Azshara and the legion during that war. And there's a bug in this level already. They reduced the XP gain on all the hard mode levels, but in this Barrow Deeps level they reduced it way, way too much. So Tyrande & Furion only get to like level 5.5 instead of level 6 like they're supposed to.

isn't it capped level instead of reduced xp gain? so how does this bug happen?

@@BSKX17 yeah the level is capped. But they set xp gain with a trigger. They must have put the wrong value in, in the triggers. see, the xp gain was the same between normal and hard in the old game. But because you destroy so many more mobs on hard you'd hit the level cap almost immediately. So as far as I can tell they reduced the xp gain on hard mode so you level up at about the same time. But on this level furion levels SO slowly that he doesn't hit the level cap. Which has to be wrong.

Actually my experience was that creeps gave zero xp during this level because you’re heroes are a 5, like in a melee game. Tyrande fights an enemy faction (Watchers) so she got 6, bit Furion doesn’t, so he stays at 5. Really irritating.

Maybe Tyrande was having second thoughts on freeing Illidan, but after Malfurion’s “I forbid it” there’s no way she’s not gonna free Illidan

In the Classic Reign of Chaos mission to get to the Horn, I found that to avoid taking too much time and too many losses to fight the Guardians, I pretty much had to mass up a 70 Food army but not fight the Orcs except to defend against their attacks, and then do a massive run-by through their base (possibly splitting off a few units to distract them) and leave them alone and fight my way through the Guardians. Destroying the Orc base only moderately hard, but would always cause me to run out of time to get to the Horn. In the Classic Reign of Chaos mission after that (to get to the Druids of the Talon), it seemed like the Human base had more Gold in it, and the corrupted woods after it had somewhat fewer bruiser-type creatures (although still fairly numerous), but more Ghosts, and the Ghosts were on more of a hair trigger for Possession, so that I didn't dare lead with anything that was a valid target for Possession, and I used the extra Gold from the Human base to make several Ancients of War to tank along with my other Trees (Eat Tree is very useful for this), with heroes, Dryads, Ancient Protectors (root when needed for extra ranged support), and Ballistas (like Glaive Throwers, but different art and cost 4 Food each -- these seem to have been replaced by Glaive Throwers in Reforged) following behind, followed by everything else, with some Dryads to guard the rear (might have also had some Trees back there -- can't remember for sure). This also made the Revenant and accompanying forces much easier to take out. (Night Elf mech army for the win.) I didn't know about the giant lizards that drop the Sobi mask (maybe those were added in Reforged? -- I could sworn I scouted out the whole map with Scouting Owl). This strategy might not work in Reforged due to the Human base having less Gold, although it could be that I trashed the Human base faster, before it had depleted the Gold as much. On the other hand, in the Classic Reign of Chaos underground mission (to get to the Druids of the Claw), it seemed like the spiders, egg sacs, and Ghosts were not as numerous as in Reforged, although again it has been many years, so I could be misremembering.

You don't have to run through the orc base like this, there's a TP scroll in the shop, you only have to get a single wisp through.

I think the more units you take into the forest the more enemy spawn. It is better to just take your two heroes and kill the revenant. Afterwards, enemies don't spawn in the forest anymore.
