At one point in my life i had left the LDS church and had joined a Pentecostal church. We had a bible study on the book of revelation. I appreciate your cautionary notes. As i went throughthis study, what was revealed to me was that no one knows for sure what all the symbols mean, and when they might mean something else. And that only a true prophet can know what a true meaning of all the symbols. And that started turning my attention back towards our church. Thank you for clearly and plainly explaining the caution needed when trying to assign meaning to imagery.

I have a different perspective on The Great Disappointment - Of course there were signs of the Second Coming; in 1820, the First Appearance of the Lord occurred in the Sacred Grove. And then in 1836, the Lord came suddenly to His Temple (Kirtland). Imho, it's a great lesson on following the Lord's prophet! The signs were there and the Lord came! To His prophet and His people. If you're not among the Saints, you'll suffer a great disappointment-
