From Pittsburgh USA. My wife and I minister to a woman and her son who escaped Iran. We love them dearly, and they treat us like angels. The gospel overcomes all barriers, allowing us to see thru the Saviors eyes regardless of ethnicity, culture, past mistakes. This podcast was a beautiful reminder we're all beloved children of Heavenly Parents.

We're listening in from Redford, Michigan (SE Michigan near Detroit). Love the show every week - BOTH parts! My 19 year old son said Shima is his favorite guest!! He says, "The Gospel and the Book of Mormon in particular are alll about laws and covenants. A lawyer is the perfect person to explain the scriptures, though I never would have thought of that before!" We learned SO much about justice, mercy, forgiveness and the Atonement of Jesus Christ. Thank you for sharing your time and testimony and for what you do in your profession! If all lawyers and judges were like you, we would have a Zion society!!

In my family we have a redemption story … my brother in law was committed to prison without parole. My sister was a choir director serving in that prison as her church calling. They fell in love, got married and then she spent 15 years writing letters and collecting letters from his bishops and others who knew him and knew his change of heart, and sent them to the governor. He eventually was pardoned. He was rebaptized and they were sealed in the provo temple by Elder Renland. He is an amazing guy and is the greatest example of letting the atonement work in his life. I appreciate Shima’s teachings on the mercy of God.

I have been serving as a prison minister in the Texas Dept. of C.J. for 6 years. I visit my assigned unit every week. I have witnessed changed hearts. We often feel the H.G. during our services. The gospel brings hope and glimmers of light to their lives. Most of my brothers will never be in the outside world again. Or if they do, they will be very very old. This podcast is discussed every week. It helps their spirit and expands their understanding of the Savior. I love my prison brothers.

Loved this! How willing are we to let people repent? How do we treat people. I agree I don't think we give people the same chance. If someone wants to change, we should encourage them, not condemn or marginalize them! Through the power of Christ people can and do change! We need to applaud this, not judge or condemn them.

I am grateful for this podcast, and it was wonderful to hear from Shima Baradaran Baughman. The same as with another commenter, I served part of my mission in the Iran Tehran Mission in 1978 before being "transferred" to England. My wife and I are currently serving in the California San Diego Mission. Our assignment is to support the Farsi-speaking branch here in San Diego--giving me a chance to "finish" the mission I started more than 45 years ago. Since being here, we have heard and experienced so many stories similar to Sister Baughman's. Individuals and families who through miraculous circumstances were able to leave Iran and immigrate to countries where they can find and accept the fulness of the gospel. The Lord is performing His work. His children are being gathered.

I am a 71 year old member of the Church in Heber City, Utah. Watching part 2 of this episode with Shima Baughman and hearing her story of giving legal council to a Jewish Rabbi serving a prison sentence and needing a ritually clean place to pray, was the most astonishing and hope-giving story I've ever heard. In light of today's global conflicts, college protests, and fears of WWIII, what a miraculous scene to picture in my mind of a loving Latter-day Saint woman, originally from Iran and converted to the Church from the Muslim religion, ministering to a Jewish Rabbi!!! The power of Christ's Atonement is REAL!!! I believe more deeply today that the love of Jesus Christ will change the world.

Shima, I am from Mesa Arizona and I want to thank you for all of your deep insights to Justice and Mercy in the Book of Mormon. It amazes me how many times the Savior Jesus Christ forgives even murderers when they have chosen to be accountable and responsible for what they have done and to repent and turn away from their sins and never do them again. The Book of Mormon is incredible as to how it teaches all of us the importance of Justice, punishment, Mercy, repentance, love and compassion. Jesus is able to use all of these tools to help bring about the Redemption of mankind! Alma Chapter 42 is pretty powerful for me and how I have learned how the pure love of God is in Justice and even in punishment, to help a person humble themselves and come to a penitent state of being. Sometimes we all need the pain and suffering of feeling all of our sins, so that we can turn around and change our ways and become accountable, responsible Sons and Daughters of God who asked forgiveness and give forgiveness. What are we all here for ? We are all to Learn to Love Like Jesus loves and forgive like Jesus forgives!

Arizona. Oh, I loved looking at these chapters through the eyes of a lawyer. This was fun! There's a man our family knows who started going back to church after he finished his prison sentence. We think his parents are great people. We've gone from seeing him admit that he wanted to end his life to going back to the temple. Everyone I know how been so kind and supportive of this man, and that has pleased me greatly. What's in the past doesn't need to determine your future. If the Lord could turn Alma the Younger from his wicked ways to one of the greatest prophets of the Book of Mormon, there's hope for every one of us.

I'm a new type of Christian today. Every word spoken is profound and spoken in clairity just as President Russell M.NELSON guides us, spoken in a manner that is completely understood , and when we feel 6 cure is "repent." Then we have God’s power, which puts me with the responsibility to repent and change. I am putting into practice the venting that I do with my friends. This is total power. Elder Maxwell's quote--"our members could stay repented if members would stop reminding them of their distressful situation. Elder Marvin J. Ashton's quote-----Many of his favorite Sundat sermons came from people in prison. i'm in the hospital listening to this and have let the medical team attending me listen to some also. Thank you all three for being our Savior’s voice today.

I am not an expert when it comes to the scriptures. In fact I never see half of what others do as they discuss the various verses. After I left the Army, I worked as a correctional officer for three years. I learned that there were three types of inmates. Good men who made a mistake. Bad men who wanted to change. Bad men who wanted to be bad. I learned that no matter what I had to treat them as a Melchizedek priesthood holder should. I was always honest with the inmates and gave them the opportunity to correct behavior before I acted (unless it was a major issue). Consequently, I was only ever treated with respect by inmates. If a new inmate insulted me, the OG's solved that problem. One time, working inmates were supposed to assault the officer that released them for work at 2 am (kitchen work starts at 0300). Administration decided to put me in that pod to handle it. I believe I prayed over the situation. When released the inmates saw that I was the officer. They consulted with their head and he called off the hit because he respected me. After they left, I went straight to the head's cell and thanked him. "No problem man, you've never caused us any issues unless we were being stupid". Ultimately, I left corrections because of administration's corruption.
