At launch it's just a quest -- but longer term plans are for a bit of a mix. This is a post apocalyptic setting, and a big goal of the game is to help supply and rebuild a town on one of the islands. Not like a city builder -- but similar idea to the town in Ashen, except you play a bigger part in building it.

In my opinion, a game with such depth should be played also and above all with a VR headset. I hope the developer takes it into serious consideration.
@2eightnine11 күн бұрын
It's on the wishlist -- but it's not a main goal. I don't want to exclude the vast majority of players without access to headsets -- and while I think the immersion would be great, I feel it runs a high risk of becoming tiring quickly, as there's a lot of extended sailing without much action.
@FrancescoSorrentino7410 күн бұрын

Can we control the sails by slacking and tightening a sheet (rope with pully) instead of physically moving the loop of rope from pin to pin? Non-sailors won't care either way, but IRL sailors will want to see it done correctly.

Not that it's a bad thing, but Following Seas basically looks like a prettier, slightly more simulator take on "Sailwind," which if you haven't tried, you should give it a look. I had a good time with the game and it's not too expensive. It does get periodic small updates, so it's not abandonware, just slow. The sailing sim scene is tiny, so there is definitely room for many more games, even if they are very mechanically similar. Fans of the "genre" are really after the trade and exploration, the relaxation and thrill of the journey, so the gameplay and mechanics can be very similar. It's like IL2 Sturmovik and DCS, both are intricate combat flight sims with very similar mechanics, but just different settings.

I definitely respect the desire for multiplayer. It's a solo dev project at this point, and multiplayer (at least to be implemented well) tends to be a significant undertaking. I try to resist scope creep to get to an unmanageable level. This isn't going to be a full priced game bursting with content, at least not at the start.
@brnddi19 күн бұрын
@@2eightnine Totally understandable, and as someone who dabbles in game development himself I understand the extra complexity multiplayer presents. Non-competitive private lobby only multiplayer would still be really cool though, and would sidestep many of the most difficult parts of multiplayer architecture (i.e. dedicated servers and ensuring that people don't cheat). I hope the project will be successful enough to enable you to consider this in the future!
