Great video, Ben. This would be akin to straight versus curve in illustration which in my recent taking up of sculpting, I hadn't considered before. Keep up the work man!

Straights vs curves is also a fundamental idea in 3D, and applies to the silhouette. This would be more similar to line weight for drawing, or soft and hard edges in painting.

hi, friend I noticed that you used a Claytube brush at 4:00 in the video, why not ClayBuild or Clay? Is there anything good about Claytube that made you choose it, I've never been able to tell the difference between them

Hey follygon I've always been curious do you think your courses for zbrush can be done in blender as well or is zbrush so specialized that there's no way to faithfully recreate what is taught in your courses?
@Follygon
@Follygon 3 жыл бұрын
I currently have at least a few students in the Appeal Academy that use Blender. Most of the course focuses on the fundamentals of form so that it can be replicated in any software. However, I do teach the course using ZBrush, pointing out specific helpful tools and workflows along the way. So you would have to know equivalent tools in your software of choice. Be it Blender or anything else.

@@Follygon out of curiosity would you recommend your course for a beginner or is it more intermediary? I know some things about modeling but haven't touched sculpting at all yet. If its more intermediary do you have any sources that you'd recommend for a beginner be it zbrush or blender?

Yes, I absolutely would! I work with many students that are on their very first day as well as students that are working professionals at places like Blizzard, Capcom, Disney, and more. The Appeal Academy includes a free download of my Quickstart guide to get you up and running asap. As well as my new sculpting the planes of the head tutorial that is extremely beginner friendly because of how much depth I go into with each and every tool. Not to mention that each mentorship is tailored to each individual student. So your feedback would be unique and tailored to you and your progress. Additionally, if you haven't checked out the website for my course yet, I have an FAQ section that answers many of these common questions as well as an example of a couple feedback sessions from two of my students. appeal.academy Feel free to email me if you have any other Qs you don't see on there Follygon@gmail.com. Have a great day!

Hey folly! In other tutorials, I see you draw curved, sharp lines - during which a long line appears in the UI. Can you explain that?

Thank you for this video, but...how is it that in 2022 we don't have a brush that just...does that with 1 stroke, or I'm too noob yet and there is such a brush and I just don't know about it :D ? The brushes that leave the dotted lines don't count :D !
