This is fantastic! I have the kit and have made several shoes. Most have turned out okay but I was guessing on some of the parts and certainly had issues with the heel and how to dry it. I love making these shoes and I will try all your tips. You are fantastic!

You can use either. I used gum paste (or fondant with tylose/cmc powder mixed in) because it dries harder and faster than fondant.

Not meaning to sound weird, but is there a way to make a small piece of cake that look like toes & put into the shoe? I would like the tops to look like: nail color with different paste or fondant. Any suggestions on how I could add a bit more creativity with my suggestion?

Those are a little trickier so that's why you don't see many of them. The easiest way would be to do the closed-toe sandal version and then extend the heel wrap to meet up with the toe portion.

It's probably the material you're using or it's dryingon you. You could use a different band, material, or work a little quicker. I try to avoid using powdered sugar or cornstarch also because that causes drying and cracking.

Although gum paste is edible, it is usually on a decoration that is removed. It dries hard. While still soft, it is mory gummy than fondant.

If your fondant is sticky, you can dust it with cornstarch/pearl dust, etc. so it will not stick to the foam.

Gum paste works best, but a mixture of 50% of each gum paste and fondant will work also or fondant with extra gum powder like typlose or CMC added.

Before it is dry, gum paste is chewier than fondant. When it is dry, it is harder than fondant.

Iconic Simmer gum paste is made out of gum tragacanth or tylose powder to make it dry hard and fast. With gum paste, it is more pliable and u can roll very thinly as compared to fondant. Gum paste can be used for making sugar flowers and other decorations on cakes

You can make your own fondant and gum paste, but not pearl dust. We do not yet have video tutorials on making fondant or gum paste, but you can finds lots of recipes by doing a Google search.
