Fonzie the 8 month old Labrador has completed his four week residential training holiday with us.
His family would like him to be an assistance dog but young Fonzie needs some help with his behaviour first so his owner has decided to join our Assistance Dog Programme where he will be taken through all the obedience training but also be helped with his behaviour issues.
Fonzie has had limited exposure since he was young due to his owners health so during his stay we helped him to build his confidence in new places, around unknown dogs and people.
We covered all his obedience training to help his owner work towards his Bronze Award. In particular his loose lead walking and recall which are key to enable him to be out with his owner at all times.
Fonzie also struggled with visitors in the house so we have taught him to settle on cue to help his owner to deal with these situations. This skill can also be used out in public when Fonzie is a little more confident.
Fonzie is a very affectionate boy and we have loved having him stay with us. His owners are very committed and we are looking forward to helping this team work through the programme.
