He's talked before about how his father played the flute but when Dave was born he stopped because one could not make a living and support a family playing music. Also, Dave's father told him when Nirvana broke big, that success was fleeting and it would all end in a year so he better save his money.

The was a (possibly apocryphal) story that when Dave started to make money with Nirvana, he had sat down with his father, who had also been a business journalist, to get some investment advice. His father asked, "so how much are you looking to invest?' And Dave goes, "uh, $14,000,000..."

Dave is wonderful, but Prince was the best at everything, even Dave says that; and might have done the show if he had been allowed to live to enter rehab and finish his book. Prince with his friends Salma Hayek and Chris Rock who would have persuaded him to do it having been Grahams guests previously. I can dream.

I'm glad to see he's got kids (two girls) and at least one is interested in music and has inherited their dad's natural talent. Dave Grohl seems to have compassion for youths and has invited a few on stage at FF concerts to showcase their talent. Generous. Risky. Rewarding.
