@@clintdickerson887ehhhh. Josh is better in every single way *musically* . Not even a knock on Taylor, Josh is just a worldclass musician who can play literally everything. It’s like Steven Adler vs Matt Sorum in GNR. One fit the band better (Adler), but the other was a wayyyyy better player (Sorum). Taylor’s look, his backing vocals, and his chemistry with Dave is what made him special. Kinda like with Adler, what made him special was his swing and his chemistry with Slash and Duff

Josh plays with a nice controlled energy and gives each song a good balance of power and technique. He sits in the pocket well but adds a bit of tension to the beat to give the songs that feeling of forward motion. Not intended as a criticism, but unless my ears deceive me, on Everlong he seems to play slightly different chorus fills than what I learned from the original recording. But all good. Speaking of recordings, I thought the mix from the May practice session (also posted on KZbin) was exceptional. I'd say that the snare seemed to stick out at times in this concert video's soundtrack...and I love snare. I find DW snares have a bit more higher-end "bite." So maybe the engineers are still used to mixing Taylor's Gretsch snare. But all in all, phenomenal Foo sound. Now I'm sorry I didn't get ACL passes. Would love to see this amazing band in Austin this month.

I saw them 3 days before this show and pretty sure I had the same expression as the guy at 5:12 seconds in. The shock of the power and the staccato notes IN THE OPENING OF ALL MY LIFE after it hits you!! God Damn!! I love Taylor's drumming. But I also love the power and change of energy Dave and Josh and the band has made! Making the best of a heart breaking situation. I would and will always see the Foo Fighters every chance I get!!!! Whole new level? Yeah it’s a new level but idk about a better level. Taylor was pretty perfect for this band. Josh definitely brings a harder, faster more punk feel though whereas Taylor brought melody, precision, emotion and intricate rhythms/time/patterns.

@@adrianriley1939 Taylor had been doing these songs for more than 15 years, and you're right timing was Taylor's best skill. they don't use metronome for live shows in FF that's why sometime you can feel they slow it down at times with josh. But I think josh brings more hard rock and something fresh to Foo. In my opinion josh is the best hard rock drummer out there.

So many discussions about Taylor/Josh. They're two different drummers. They both have their strenghts. Josh have a forward energy, more akin to the first FF album. Taylor was TIGHT. Everything he did was incredibly tight. And I miss that. And I enjoy Josh's new more loose approach also. They're both awesome.

Pat's amps are on. This is something that goes back years. A lot of TV sound engineers have a habit of having Dave quite dominant in the mix, even though everyone regards Chris as the lead guitarist. One of those annoying things.

I don't like time feeling of Josh playing songs of Foo Fighters which were with Taylor Hawkins on drums. For example, why in the song Times like these, on 38.38 minute, he began to slow down the tempo? Precision of Taylor was much better.

On the other hand, Taylor would often push the tempo ahead.. which I do like! It’s all mailable, I think Josh sits right in the pocket, with a healthy amount of push and pull of the time :)

I have to agree. It’s just not the same. Taylor was a huge part of the Foo Fighters. His personality, his charisma, (no more under pressure) and most of all his drumming. I’m Not saying this new guy is bad, but he’s not a good fit to replace Taylor. I’m not even sure it’s possible to replace Taylor. Maybe Dave wants the new guy to do his own things and not try to sound like Taylor. I dunno, something just sounds off.
