growing up in an all-white suburb, i was an outsider. punk and metal music were at the time the music of rebellion so i gravitated towards it but later on rage against the machine put me onto more of the "conscious" rap out there like public enemy and krs-one, other bands got me into rap, and then kanye west broke down a lot of the lines between the "backpakcers" and the "mainstream" rap. i'm nowhere near as elitist as i once was about "listening to underground rap" as i was in those days but i am thankful that bands like rage put me onto rap that had content i was more interested in

I don't care what people say about "Nu Metal" or "Rap Metal"... Korn and Deftones, though they were considered pioneers of Nu Metal, are extremely versatile bands and have pushed the experimentation of Metal to so many levels. These bands truly are Game-changers. And Korn will forever be my favorite band of all time. They've had some serious hits, and misses, but I praise them to death for just doing things that no one else was doing at the time. We all see the "Freak on a Leash" scatting as legendary now, but I'm sure that initially it was maybe laughed at. So never, ever discourage the inventive, or the experimental. Just try to understand it, before you bash it.
