I think some people hesitate to go to the food bank because they think they're taking from others but in reality if people don't go get the food it's going to go in the trash and a lot of it still does so it's important for people to go to the food pantry when they need the help and they don't have to wait until they have nothing. If a family spends $200 a week at this grocery store they can go to the food pantry first and then go to the grocery store and get the little fill-in items that they didn't get at the pantry, and only spend about $50 and they can use the other 150 to help pay their rent gas or whatever

@@keepitsimple2593 I couldn’t have said it better. People don’t go to the food bank and really need to go. Don’t think you have to be destitute with nothing in your pantry before you go to a food bank. Everyone needs a little help sometimes. Thank you so much for watching. ~Money Saving Mama

I use 1 pound each of pork and beef, fine dice a zucchini, a yellow squash, a carrot, an onion, and mushrooms and cook together seasoned with salt and pepper. The veggies disappear into the meat if you dice finely enough and then stretches the meat to at least another pound. Then I divide the meat and make one portion into taco/burrito meat, one into meatloaf mix, etc. It really stretches the meat, adds healthy vegetables and is very versatile.

Try using some bacon boiled or a ham hock you can also use better than bouillon ham or chicken and some liquid smoke in the water to season the collards. To make them a little more tender put the bag in the freezer for half-hour or so before you cook them

For commercial sourdough you want to read the label as it’s not true fermented dough and just has acid to give sour flavor. Also, to warm it you can wrap it in a damp tea towel and put in a very low oven to warm it up.

If you are disabled or handicap or Senior or senior citizen here in Arizona the food banks will not help you at all. I called a church that would bring you a food box here I got told that they would not help me and my husband with food.because I am disabled and my husband is a senior citizen. We can't drive and we don't have a car and she sent us a list of food banks that we have to drive to. Arizona will bring food boxes to people that can drive and to families with children and to the immediate people and homeless people. How can a food bank that is run by a church and one person can tell disabled and handicap and senior and senior citizens that the church can't help you out with a food box delivery? Do I need to call the head of the church to let them know about the person that runs their food bank is doing to the disabled and handicap and senior and senior citizens?

Im a little confused, coming originally from uk,where i created a charity which had thrift stores ,a foodbank, and community food growing project. Im wondering how access to foodbanks work for you? It seems to be that you live with food from foodbanks and blessing boxes full time? In uk it really is a short term stopgap, people only need foodbank maybe a week or two once in a while, for instance while awaiting benefit claim when theyve lost employment,or an unexpected high expense drops. Theres no way you get a trunk full of food for weeks on end. Most foodbanks are controlled access ( ours was self referral though) with referral needed from social workers,gp etc. Only the most destitute were regularly given access..and many lived in fear of intervention from authorities if it was deemed the family could not financially suppory their children ( i know..dreadful to think you may be investigated just for hitting a tough financial time). Also people were limited to only access 1 foodbank per week. Can you tell us a bit more of how the system is managed where you are?

@@EmbracethechaosPortugal Food banks in this area I run by churches. The churches go out pick up donation food from grocery stores put it together and distribute it. There’s no income requirement and generally all they ask is your name and the number in your household. on the flipside also we have Wick and snap which are government assistance programs. Those I don’t really know much about since I don’t qualify. Thank you so much for watching. ~Money Saving Mama
