Came across this video by happenstance and I love you already! It's so nice and comforting to watch a crafting tutorial by people who are straight up and not pretentious as get out with a gazillion dollar perfectly organized craft room and craft table in the background and perfect manicures. TFS. You are quite talented and Seriously outstanding amongst so so so many crafting artists. I'm just so happy I came across your channel today. Keep on rolling girl...YOU ROCK!

I dunno much about being pinned, but I hope it's a good thing. After all, my notification said "Congratulations, you've been pinned.." Honestly, I've never commented on a crafting video til today. I'm just blown away by your absolute creativity and real talk. And I guess I should say something like..."oh.em.gee...she pinned my comment." Instead I had to google what that means. Lmfao. Yeah, I'm old school,

I am thrilled that you came by my channel and I do hope you peruse its contents and find it equally appealing :) Honestly...I'm not fancy-shmancy...all I know how to do is be me/real and I'm happy that you enjoyed and hope that you continue to enjoy. Not a fan myself of "gazillion dollar perfectly organized craft room" and I do not care one iota about my nails. I'm simply an empty nester trying to explore my creative side with a passion for journaling and all things creative. I love the simplicity of this video. Thank you for sharing your process with explanations of what you are doing. I'm tired of seeing vidoes where people claim to "make something out of nothing" using all these expensive professionally designed and packaged beautiful products that someone on a fixed budget could never afford. I am disabled and stuck in my shoebox apartment just wanting to explore my creative side and maybe create something to bring a little color and joy into my otherwise dull, boring life. So I am going to try this on a smaller scale with smaller papers and probably air dry them.

Thank you so much for watching Catherine!! You are most welcome :) I am all about using what you have, even though I do have a few toys of my own. Be safe and be well, Elizabeth

The reason for the veining is the air pushing the dyed water across the paper and it drying very fast on unevenly like blowing on distress inks which if you drop them on wet paper spread like that too, probably weight of inks in water.

I came across your video by chance. Thank you Elizabeth for showing how to dye paper using food dye. I had been wondering about this and was about to try...now I am definitely going to dye some papers. while watching I was transported 40 years to when I was studying and carried out lots of natural dyeing on materials, wools etc. I used items like onion skins, fruit skins, beetroot, tea, coffee etc. I also used natural mordants found in my home to help make the colours fast ( not run when washed). I had not experience with this topic and tried anything and everything found in my house to make colours. I really liked your natural, matter of fact attitude towards making your video. I also liked your disclaimer about not being responsible for the end product and also not to leave the kitchen... Thanks again for 20 min of education with humour.

With the composition pages, I usually will fold them in the 13x9 pan... Wetting the inside then the outside as I fold it in... Just leaving this there for people reading that don't have a big enough pan for the entire sheet 😊

Only done tea dyed paper so far, but I used my Sahara food dryer; put the wet papers straight onto each rack (2 papers side by side slightly overlapping) - 12 racks; lowest setting on my food dryer for about an hour and a half on regular cycle, and they dried quickly. Didn't have to worry about setting fire to the kitchen, but I did check them a few times. Put a few into a low oven but got too nervous about that and changed them back into the food dryer. (I haven't got much space to just lay them out, and have cats. We know about cats and paper, right?). Definitely going to give this method a try soon. Those papers look amazing.

I haven't read all of the comments, so not sure if someone else suggested....but I have been seeing shaving cream dying shoes on the internet. I wonder what that would do? I'm envisioning spraying the foam into a baking pan, putting the coloring drops and then squishing in the paper....or even paper down first, then layer the foam and coloring..... then maybe have a pan of water to dip and rinse the sheets. This may be more work than worth, but seems like it could make cool marbling as well.

Great tutorial, I am going to give this a try. Now for the silly question. I've done tea dying before, but with this, I noticed you just used cold water? Many thanks ~Karin~
@NeverHopelessbyElizabeth4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching!! Glad you enjoyed and I do hope you give it a go :) I just use tap water and add the drops of food coloring, the more drops, the deeper the color. In my experience, the temperature of the water does not make a difference. The only reason one would use hot water for tea dyeing is because the tea has to be able to steep in order for the color to come out of the tea bags, the longer it steeps (depending on how much tea you used) the deeper the color brown, but I don't think that the temperature has any bearing on the outcome of the color. Hope that makes sense. Be well, Elizabeth P.S. If you do try the food coloring, I'd love to see your outcome, tag me on IG @neverhopeless123 ;)

How long do you let them soak in the color?
@NeverHopelessbyElizabeth Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching Valerie!! Initially I let them soak for about 20 minutes, then they soak for how ever long they take to dry in the oven. The marbling comes from the pooling on the top most and bottom most pages, the middle ones just seem to get tinted with color. HTH In the end, you just have to try it and see what works for you 😊 Be well, Elizabeth

Have you tried this with watercolour paper? How did it work out?
@NeverHopelessbyElizabeth2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching!! I have never tried it using watercolor paper, only because I typically don’t use thicker papers for my written journaling, but I bet it would dye well for a mixed media piece 😊 Be safe and be well, Elizabeth

Does this stain the glass Corning ware?
@NeverHopelessbyElizabeth5 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching!! No, it does not stain the clear glass dish, though I don't think I'd use anything but clear glass. In other words, I have no idea if it would stain a white (or any other colored) dish. HTH Be well, Elizabeth

What printer paper is best to dye

Thank you so much for watching Jaqueline!! I don't use a specific type of copy paper, usually it is what is on sale or what ever is less expensive at the time. Be safe and be well, Elizabeth

Awesome tutorial! Love how they turned out. Could you please let me know how to get the bright pink / magenta colour you showed. I can't wait to try this. Thank you for fab video!

Thank you so much for watching!! I so wish I could, but each time the papers come out different. The only difference could have been because some of the colors I used were "neon" food coloring. Usually the papers on the top of the pile get the most vibrant colors. HTH Be safe and be well, Elizabeth

What about a hair dryer
@NeverHopelessbyElizabeth5 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching!! Yes, a hair dryer would work as well I suppose, though I've never tried it. It would work similar to a heat gun, but I don't have one of those, so can't speak specifically to that. There are lots of ways that people dry their papers. Be well, Elizabeth
