You two are so cute. I still don't understand why I was raised like we were French. Both my Grandparents are gone now, but my Grandpa was Finish. I think my Grandma may have been French but both of them American and lived in the US their whole life. Now this was way back in the 70's-80's. I do feel things in general were better as far as everyone eating together as a family. Really enjoyed this video.😊💝💝

Thanks to this video (the bit about the French schedule of meals), I've started making it a point of having a proper "goûter" between 4 and 5 in the afternoon, which has allowed me to delay my dinner until 7 in the evening, and presto, just like that, all my problems are now solved! I am no longer rushing home after work because I'm starving, I am taking my time to prepare dinner, and most importantly, I am better able to resist the late evening snacks being had around me: ice cream, cookies, crackers, etc. The goûter has been a total game changer! I feel like I have finally gotten it right! I have always eaten very healthily; balanced meals and unprocessed, whole foods were nothing new. But the eating schedule is! I think the main reason we end up having early dinners in North America is that our lunches are simply not substantial enough, so that both parents and children are literally starving by 5 pm and a goûter would not cut it. Having a stiff breakfast (2 fruits, 1 hefty portion of oats or bran cereal with a cup of milk or soy milk) and a complete lunch (fish or chicken, an egg, generous vegetables, carbs, a fruit) and having a goûter (a latte and a piece of toast with jam), will ensure that you will not ever be starving and will be able to enjoy your lighter dinner later in the evening, bypassing the snacks. - - I wish you could make a video with your mom on the topic of the goûter: if you have it, when you have it, what you have, how often, , etc :) Bonne continuation.

I find all your videos so interesting! I love all things French - and your channel is another one of those things!I grew up eating around 6pm and still eat dinner around that time. I rarely want snacks after dinner and really don't feel hungry except for maybe some chocolate. My husband has ice cream every night around 10pm, but that is the only snack he has. I think we both try to eat a lot of veggies and fruits and not eat between meals. We always eat together - and especially when my daughter was small. It is so important to eat together as a family.

My husband and I recently went for ice cream. When I saw the size of my cup, I was stunned and my jaw dropped, so much that the ice cream shop worker laughed at me. Thankfully we lived nearby and could take the remainder home. I had ice cream for days!

Loved this video! As an American, 33 years old, I’ve never eaten dinner at 5-6, or really known anyone who has, this wouldn’t even be enough time to cook dinner since many of us don’t get off work until that time. In our house and growing up, we would do the same as you..a snack after work and then dinner at 7-8. Thank you, mom, for sharing your experience! I hope the American fast food culture isn’t invading oversees too bad 😢 it’s horrible, hence the obesity epidemic here. I live in a rural town and it’s honestly scary, maybe 1 of 50 people is a healthy weight, very sad, it almost looks like zombies walking around because everyone’s is having to sort of waddle with amount of weight on their knees. I hope you’re videos continue to reach far and wide!

I’m born and raised in Canada but so many times people would harass me about not eating much when doing out. The really sad reality is I was eating a serving size and not finished the rest because the portions are ridiculous. It’s sad that it is seen as strange when in fact the strange thing in America is the portion. Also it’s so wasteful. 😢I never finish a plate when going out. It’s too much.

I love these videos with your mother - so great - thank you! Growing up as an American we would snack after school but that would usually be something healthy and dinner was at 7 -7:30 depending when my Dad came home and we had home cooked meals and sat down for supper - my dad was from Kansas and dinner was called Supper - and we sat down and ate as a family - and we all ate the same thing - my mom is an excellent cook - and we were all lean growing up - we had pizza and junk food on occasion but my mom took good care of us and her food was always the best. I am always surprised to hear that other families don't sit down to dinner together and eat different things - that is just strange to me and I wouldn't associate that with American Culture - Americans at least when I was growing up - everyone would have dinner with their family - dinner was so important during the weekday we would talk about our day and enjoy delicious food - we really loved each others company - I have great childhood memories of having dinners with family - its important to spend time as a family together without cell phones and distractions
