How about asking your buddy Jimmy Carter prior to the 80s when he started the grain embargo which would be one of the big events that would contribute to the farming crisis
@nobody6875 ай бұрын
@Benjimac379 Reaganomics destroyed the middle class. That was the biggest reason for small farmers being run out. He gave corporations the green light to out compete small farms. Trckle down never trickled down. Now, corporations have control over anything they want. Reagan also conspired with Iran to hold the hostages until after the election. In order to defeat Jimmy Carter. That's documented fact.

Bottom line. Fast food workers in Denmark get $22 - $25 hourly. They get a pension. They receive 6 weeks paid vacation. Health care is a right, not a privilege. And the cost of a Big Mac? Same as ours or very, very close. Greed in America is a f'ing disease anymore.
@urkiddingme62549 ай бұрын
The 1984 movie, "Country," about a small farm being auctioned off, foretold this. It's been getting worse for decades. Some small farmers are starting a trend back to sustainable farming, but I think most of them have to find a niche market to survive. One of them, Gold Shaw Farm, in Vermont, publishes a regular, highly entertaining youtube channel video as part of his income. Plus he worked as a marketing manager in a big city for years so he could afford the startup costs without going into deep debt. It's possible, but it takes some ingenuity, planning, and drive.

I saw the first Food, Inc. when it first came out. An eye opener! The huge agribusiness companies are strangling our farmers and our food supply. This is dangerous for all of us. A relative of mine grew up on a farm in central Illinois. He is now a PhD specialist in agriculture. He is worried about our soil health and the lack of diverse crops in the United States.

Workers are protected by various state and federal laws pertaining to working conditions and minimum wage. The problem is that we have allowed tens of thousands of foreign nationals to illegally enter the country. these individuals are here illegally. Some have committed misdemeanors by entering the country illegally the first time and others have become felons or illegally entering the USA on numerous occasions. These individuals avoid the law and are willing to work for much less than the minimum wage.
