Most of the cooking shows are carefully scripted and produced. This is understandable. Even Julia Child's was supported by a team of cooks and assistants who actually did most of the prep and cooking. Of course, she was honest about it. Beating Bobby Flay is a perfect example of a "faked" reality cooking show. How is it that the kitchen is stocked with ingredients needed for the guest chef's signature dish? Do you think that Flay doesn't have time to study the recipe for the signature dish before cooking begins?
@francesca-selfproclaimed-bleep6 жыл бұрын
The already made food in some cooking demo shows are definitely understandable because of time constraints and they need to finish clips of it asap so they can move from one recipe to the next (including Halloween/Thanksgiving/Christmas episodes) without interfering with personal holidays. Some cooks plan it out ahead of time while some others have a team helping them out.
@michaelautrey66416 жыл бұрын
i think beat bobby flay is a rigged show anyway.
@retroflashbackdude6 жыл бұрын
Stephen the chefs probably have to put down their signature dish on the application so that the producers can research different versions of their dish and have the right ingredients for each dish available for taping in case that chef gets to face Bobby Flay. Don’t worry, Bobby Flay doesn’t know the signature dish in advance.

In reality, its really a lot of blood sweat and tears. Ever seen the movie Burnt with Bradley Cooper?

As someone who's dad taught television production in a college the amount of "staging" or "retakes" or "off camera help" required when filming is immense. Filming takes tons of people and is EXTREMELY expensive so every minute has to be maximized. Also what looks appealing to you and me looks off on camera hence the "manipulation" by under or overcooking food etc. So call it what you want but that is the reality of tv :)

Emeril's use of "BAM!" was used in professional kitchens for a decade, at least, before he made it TV-famous! Also, on one episode, Emeril was using a KitchenAid mixer, and the whisk attachment hadn't been installed correctly, and he couldn't figure out how to make it work. He then bad-mouthed his crew for giving him defective equipment. The problem with that is, every mixer in a professional kitchen, from the counter-top size to the huge floor model mixers, have the exact same method of installing the attachments! What a POS for blaming his crew, for something he obviously should have known how to operate! That was the last episode I ever watched.

Wouldn't really call it fake though. There have been a few places I've seen on the show that I hadn't tried or didn't know about even here where I live in Albuquerque, NM. It's not going to be everybody's "cup of tea" but there is something to be said for a lot of these places. How many restaurants have gone bankrupt after paying Guy Fieri's $100,000+ appearance fee?
@deemariedubois49166 жыл бұрын
Leo Marshall This is totally untrue. I have been to 2 Diners in metro Atlanta that Guy went to and filmed in. My husband and I talked to the owner at one place and the cook at another, they paid nothing for Guy to come and even though their business was alright before Guy came, after their Diners were showcased by Guy, their business BOOMED. "What’s more, his show has allowed chefs who have been toiling in obscurity for years to have their moment in the spotlight, often resulting in hordes of new customers streaming in from around the country." There are people who now take their vacations going to DDDs that Guy has shown. I think that's pretty damn cool. And for someone's word other than mine: "According to an article in The Twin Cities Business, the restaurants do NOT get paid nor do THEY PAY to have their restaurants featured on the show. The restaurants do receive free publicity and seem to have a vast increase in sales after the airing of the episode that features their restaurants." movies.stackexchange.com/questions/58863/who-gets-paid-on-diners-drive-ins-and-dives/60836 The nonsensical rumor began after this happened: "Fieri’s star quickly began to rise, and he was a certified celebrity by the time the third season rolled around. So much so that a hedge fund manager, billionaire Steve Cohen, paid $100,000 to be Fieri’s bro for a day, during which they drove around Cohen’s home state of Connecticut and visited diners. The two actually became fast friends, and Fieri later highlighted Cohen’s favorite hot dog spot, Fairfield’s Super Duper Weenie, on the show." www.foxnews.com/food-drink/2015/06/17/things-didn-t-know-about-guy-fieri-s-diners-drive-ins-and-dives.html Would anyone have turned down such an offer? Nothing startling here- except perhaps, that you barely even touched the surface of " behind the scenes". eg) Chopped contestants get 20 minutes after the "reveal" of the mystery basket- and a formulated plan is outlined with the producers. On this show and many other "competition shows", did you ever wonder how they interview people whilst cooking, do "sit downs" with the contestants, whilst cooking, show each contestant making their dishes from scratch- all with 2 cameras. It's entertainment- pure and simple- and I only get annoyed when they try and pass it off as " shocking" or " surprised"".

Sad when you think of all the food that gets wasted and thrown out, just for all these non-reality reality shows.

Iron Chef America. Not Iron Chef Japan. Should've classified that.

I can't watch most food network programs anymore. The constant extreme close-ups, out of focus shots and rapid camera changes jar my nerves. It's a shame because most of the host are very good.

Caught a couple of Julia Child's from way back this morning, she had 3/4 different stages of the food she was cooking, as it progressed to the finished stage,she would put one pan under the counter and pull out the next stage ( French onion soup) enjoyed watching her very much!!

OMG!!! I am totally SHOCKED and even more, I am HURT! Tell me it's just not so. I would have never known (or even guessed) any of the 'revelations' contained therein, butt for your exposure. Next thing I know is that on the Decoratin' Channel, 'Joanna' doesn't do ALL of her own decoratin' and legwork, OR that 'Chip' (aka 'Caveman' and 'Shorty' don't do ALL of the carpentry work THEMSELVES! But back to the Decoratin' Channel for a second: The the final spike through the heart of my belief system would be if you told me that Robert Irvine-- along with his trusty decorator and carpenter-- aren't really completely gutting and replacing a restaurant's interior (including new flooring, ceiling, seating, fixtures, signage, etc etc), revamping the menu, installing a POS system, .sterilizing the god-awful, grease-laden and roach/rodent-infested kitchen, re-training the staff, and healing the owners' marriage in JUST 24 HOURS and for JUST $10,000 !?. Please, please... Say it ain't so...

You know that Iron Chef is faked. They only make one plate of everything. And then by magic there is a plate for all the judges.

I never watched these shows. I watch shows of recipes of food I have always cooked. I always thought TV cooks were weird

I don't know why but I only watch the stuff when I'm starving. It's kind of like flogging yourself.
