Very well presented. Or as Jack Webb (Sgt. Friday) said, "Just the facts Mam." But there are facts and there are facts. Personally I think the whole subject is grossly over blown. Mankind survived for hundreds (thousands) of years without worrying about it. I am not about to start now. Besides a little germ now and then promotes immunity. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂

I've eaten stuff from no finish, wax finish, natural oil finishes and polyurethane finishes. I'm still standing. This is a great video, use your head people, listen to the expert

Very good presentation Mike! Controversial subject blown completely out of proportion (MHO). I feel that if someone is concerned about "safe to use", do the research. I personally use walnut oil from the grocery store to wet sand and everclear to process my shellac. Your suggestion to read the MSDS is spot on! Thanks for sharing! Take care, Dave

Thanks for the presentation Mike. As a personal rule, for objects that will be sold and the buyer will be responsible for its maintenance, I use mineral oil as it is cheap, easy to buy and apply by anyone. Just a trip to the local drugstore or market and it´s done! See ya!

A touchy subject, Mike, comprehensively dealt with, thanks. As a former long term industrial R&D pharmacist and bacteriologist I am too aware of legal liability risks, and quirky situations that can arise. However, decisions have to be made. Thorough cleaning and drying of hard smooth surfaces, then good storage and frequency of use must be taken into account, along with integrity of the cured coat. Result? Liquid Paraffin (petrolatum), which needs a lot of renewal, and probably walnut oil and maybe sunflower oil, which I have heard used.Better safe than sorry, but no recommendation here. I have found pure tung oil too troublesome to use. Bernard.

Interesting distinction between food grade and food safe. From the definition, rough lumber is not food grade (because it's rough surface would make it difficult to clean adequately). The same lumber, once made into a completed project, like a bowl, might be food safe.

I have always associated 'food grade' with materials that are safe to be in contact with food. The term seems to be used to distinguish a material from a version of that material that may be inappropriate for food contact. For instance, food grade plastics as opposed to your garden variety plastic.
