I mean, this could be another M&Ms scenario, where the talking versions of the snack are higher, more intelligent beings while the snack is just modeled after them. Yeah it is pretty much always disturbing when a food mascot character wants to be eaten. It always reminds me of that scene from "Young Sherlock Holmes" where Watson is hallucinating that all the pastries in the donut shop are trying to force themselves into his mouth. It's one of the most disturbing scenes in a movie ever. I think the worst part is that this hallucination is taking part in a mausoleum, I think. So there isn't any actual food there.. just dead things.

Once at a sleepover at a summer camp, me and some other kids were told that we didn't have to go to bed as long as we were quiet. So we made a pentagram out of gold fish and started to circle it. The councilor walked in on us and then I assume questioned his entire reality. He asked us what was happening and someone said that we were summoning Finn the goldfish from the goldfish commercials. The councilor then brought almost every other councilor to show them what we were doing. Edit: This is my favorite memory from this camp, and very few people that I went to camp with know about this.

@anthonyortiz350 we all had a lot of energy after about 20 minutes of talking one kid said "we can do anything as long as we're quiet" and so the person who was eating the gold fish said "we should try to summon the talking goldfish from the commercials." So we all get out of our bunks and spend like 5-10 minutes trying to construct the pentagram. After the councilor checked in on us, half of us (including me) were laughing too hard to do any more, but the other half kept on circling the pentagram.

This episode got me thinking about things that I ate as a child that I no longer eat and vice versa and I've realized something: why hasn't Food Theory made an episode about taste and why it changes over time? I can think of countless examples of foods that I hated as a kid which I really enjoy as an adult as well as things that I remember enjoying as a kid that are actually hard for me to enjoy now. I feel like the answer to this is actually multi-faceted in the sense that it's not only that our taste buds mature but also as adults when have the benefit of enjoying similar items prepared in new and different ways. This video also brings up the marketing aspect of it all as I feel like that had a HUGE EFFECT on the things that I wanted as a kid. For example, I feel like I was in love with McDonald's as a kid because of the Happy Meal but as I got older I found that it wasn't filling enough so I would have my mother also buy me an additional double cheeseburger and in the worse situation I would actually get other items from other fast food restaurants to go along with the Happy Meal until I FINALLY weaned myself off of them and realized that what I was doing was hella expensive and inconvenient all for the sake of a silly toy or the cute box. As an adult, I found that I was more attracted to the idea of value or "bang for my buck" so that mantra pushed me in a completely different direction than my childhood counterpart and now as a MUCH OLDER ADULT living through a bit of a recession I've discovered that I've all but cut out fast food from my diet not because I didn't enjoy it but simply because IT'S TOO BLOODY EXPENSIVE and for the amount I would spend in 3 days on meals I can buy groceries and make simple meals that easily last an entire 7 day week.

I miss when commercials had elaborate connected storytelling like this. Lucky Charms had something similar. I remember there was even a fun web series on the official site, but I can't remember what it was about

This is something I have talked about to my mom for years. I remember playing those games. It's great to see someone else make that connection.

8:14 no. If he's a spokesperson then he whispered it to the goldfish so that he doesn't get caught warning them.

When I was really little I used to pretend that the goldfish were cannibals and they would eat each other. never thought there would be a food theory lore video related to it. XD

I’ve never laughed harder to an opening of a video. There’s so many out of pocket quotes in this, and mat says it all so seriously. Was not expecting this at all

I want so badly for Matthew to collaborate with the Hamburglore podcast precisely for stuff like this. (Also, fun fact: only 40% of goldfish are actually smiling)

That’s actually quite unsettling😅

I'm just waiting for the POPs cereal lore video to drop one day, considering they had an entire website dedicated to the faceless cereal bits, plus the "experience the feeling of being inside a bag/box of pops" thing that happened. That was a wild time

this man can find lore anywhere at anytime and make a 10min video that's surprisingly interesting no matter what.
