My friend is married to an expat in Kuwait and had to do visa runs with her kids for multiple years. I don’t know the specifics but I think it depends on the employer and the government frequently shuts down family visas so if you don’t already have one they can be hard to get post Covid 🤷‍♀️

couldn’t agree more. i have 2 older brothers, they’re 4 and 7 years older and they always ganged up on me, made fun of me, excluded me, made me feel bad about myself, and now they despise me bc our Dad died 2 years ago and they don’t have to pretend anymore. our Mom died when i was 10 and they were 14 and 17 and they think it’s the same thing and doesn’t matter how much younger i was or that i was a little girl. all they cared about was not being kicked out of our Dad’s will. it’s beyond foul. my Dad was very protective of me bc of the way they treated me. when they would hit me and get physical with me like for example one time my brother threw a volleyball at my face as hard as he could and when my Dad saw me crying with a swollen face and i told him what happened, he immediately went right into my brothers room and threw the same ball at him and screamed at him saying “how do you like it when someone bigger and stronger than you does that?” my Dad was my best friend bc i made the effort to be close to him, they never did.

But a country where religion (Islam) plays such an important role in all areas of life - and does not recognize religious marriage? For Chantal, in principle, it is important that Kuwait recognizes her marriage, because only there she can have problems with the law if it does not happen. In Canada, she would not have any complications because of it.

Would it actually be legal for them to live together if they aren’t married? In some Arab countries, that’s illegal. I don’t think Salah even has Kuwaiti citizenship. Those countries don’t really give out citizenship like western countries do. It might be some kind of temporary protection visa as Syria is having a civil war. Arab countries don’t really take refugees in let alone grant them citizenship. That means even being married to him would not get her a Kuwaiti passport. Man she is going to die in their summers too. It regularly gets up to 50°c
