"Our Flag Does Not Fly Because the Wind Moves It, It Flies With the Last Breath of Each Soldier Who Died Protecting It."
@taemien9219 Жыл бұрын
First I apologize for a comment that is a year later, but I figured this story would be one you might be able to appreciate. I was deployed to Egypt as a part of a joint allied training exercise back in 2007. At the area we did training there was a line of flags of all the countries that were participating. In the middle was the flag of the United States and Egypt, with others such as UK, Italy, and quite a few others. I was on the night shift, so it was usually quite dark and in that time of the year there was no wind and it was chilly at night. In the morning the sun would rise and usually a fog would roll through. There was a particular morning that stood out at me. The fog had rolled in a bit earlier but like most nights there was no wind or anything. When the fog had spread thin enough we were able to see the flag poles. The American flag was flying while the others were drooping as there was no wind. The reason our flag was flying is because it was stuck on the top of an adjacent flagpole. No other flags were stuck in the same way. Again there was no wind that evening. There was also no way for those flags to be tampered without us being able to hear it. But it was definitely a sight to see under the morning daylight. Here's a picture I took: cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/673432780105056257/1159716343453589544/image.png

This story is propaganda. He's confusing the war of 1812 with the American Revolution, that fort wasn't "primarily a civilian fort", and only 4 people died during the shelling. Burning the flag or kneeling during the national anthem is what people gave their lives for. I remember when my cousin from Poland came and saw the show little Bush. And could not believe that they would allow that on television. making fun of a politician, especially in Communist Poland would have gotten you thrown in jail. this country is very special because we have the freedom of speech and whether you like what someone has to say and agree with it. Or whether you revile it, you still are free to say it. It is easy to stand behind something. Someone says that you agree with and call yourself someone who believes in freedom of speech. it is a lot more difficult to allow someone to say things you hate or completely disagree with Because that is a person who has the spirit of what it means to be truly free in his or her heart. ( Sorry about the spelling punctuation and grammar. But I used the voice to text function which apparently is not working very well. When I have more time and if I come across this again, I will make sure to correct things.)

I wish they would show this video in school every year, at least for 9/11 or veteran’s day. I wish they would bring back the Pledge of Allegiance. I wish they would teach history as accurately and fairly as possible. I wish our country would stand as unified patriots again but, even as someone in their 20s, I don’t know if I’ll ever get the chance to witness such a time. My generation is full of degenerates and those who aren’t are drowned out by those with disgustingly loud voices preaching about inequality and unfairness in a nation that is constantly trying to adjust policies to be more fair; a nation where its very soul protects their right to disrespect it. Because of such people in my generation, I have no idea how I’m supposed to face my ancestors who fought for our freedom, for the dream and belief that was and hopefully still is the United States of America. I pray that dream never dies.

The flag is very important to us. The US is home to people from many different countries. The flag is recognizable to everyone and has been a rallying point throughout our history. The stripes represent the original 13 colonies and each star represents a state. We have a list of flag etiquette. Examples are the flag may not touch the ground and it’s folded into a triangle with the blue field showing. When I was in the Navy the flag was raised on a flagpole at sunrise and lowered at sunset. Everyone, all ranks, were required to face the flag and salute while the flag was in motion.

Turd Ferguson, please don’t cry, 95% of the video that the Korean couple is referring to is FALSE. There was no prisoner ship with “cargo holds full of men”, Key was negotiating for the release of ONE person; Dr. William Beanes, a civilian Prisoner of War, who was tending to injured British Sailors. Key did not witness the bombardment, he was held below decks on a ship some distance from the ‘battle. The British Fleet consisted of 19 ships, 16 of which were warships, and they were 2 miles away from Ft. McHenry, the very limit of their mortars, and out of cannon range. There was a total of 4 American dead and 22 injured, and 1 British death. The flag was hit once or twice, there were two holes in the flag after the battle. The flagpole was not hit, a British round landed near the base, causing it to lean. Key emerged onto the main deck after the battle was over to see the Garrison Flag flying, which was normal every morning for Revele. With all that being said, ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ always brings me to tears, but not from the exaggerated story, but for all those (American, Canadian, British, French, Australian, Korean, Vietnamese…need I go on?)who gave their lives in times of senseless war to insure the freedom of others. As an American, born and raised, I thank you for making this video. It seems that the majority of the world doesn't or won't understand why Americans are the way we are. Why we are so proud as a nation, why we hold to our ideals the way we do. We are often hated or ridiculed for it. I know we have made a great many mistakes on our path, many of them grievous and unforgivable. We've been the bad guy, at times. I know that. At the time, we didn't realize we were being the bad guy. Sometimes you don't know until 5, 10, 20 or 50 years later. But we're learning, adapting. America is the largest and longest running social experiment in the world. We're not always going to get it right. But we try. Most of us strive for greatness every day, setting an example for the world to follow whether we are aware of it or not. I served in the US Army infantry. It's been over 10 years since I medically discharged. Even so, I had held our countries ideals in higher regard than many other Americans. Still do. Yet, I had forgotten this story. Thank you for sharing it and reminding me. Yes, I cried during this video. All I ever wanted was to be just a fraction of what those men holding up the flag that night were. And I only hope that I can raise my son with the same pride of country that those men had that night.

It's a place where all nationalities live together under the moniker Americans. And in so we are all brothers who stand for each other and fight to protect each other and our families. Every nation is so unique and so special. Thank you guys for the respect you've shown our flag. I'm curious now to learn more about yours. As you sang your anthem... it was so beautiful. That flag was still flying because it was NEVER hit by the British. The British used guns on the fort that were impossible to be accurate enough to hit the flag, even if they had TRIED to aim for it. They weren't aiming for the flag at all, but rather the fort's cannons that were keeping the fleet from passing by. Also, there were no civilians in the fort, just soldiers. So, no one was holding up the flag. 24 soldiers were wounded in the fort and only four others died.

As a descendant of soldiers in every American conflict including both sides of the civil war, this song moves me profoundly and even as I listened to this I stood at salute facing my American flag. That's what we fight for, both civilians and military. Our brothers and sisters at home and abroad, but more importantly the rights that flag represents and the blood that was spilled to make this nation what it is. It's not perfect but we live in a society so plentiful, so enriched by freedom that we have young people burning that flag in the streets and they don't fear execution as they would in say north Korea. It IS absolutely against the law to burn that flag and I'm ashamed of the law enforcement that doesn't uphold that law but I know they think it's their right to do so and disrespect the millions that have perished under that flag. I don't think they should be allowed to but they live in such a free land that they don't suffer consequences for doing so. This country needs to get back to teaching it's youth to be proud of our American heritage. Good and bad. Because it's the tapestry that has woven the fabric of the most powerful and sometimes most prosperous nation in the world. We hope the participants in this video are stateside and have been welcomed into this tapestry to be Americans themselves.

@caliberspecificreload Жыл бұрын
@@individual116 right. Burning a flag, if that IS what you're talking about, is not speech. It's an act. One that is actually against the law. And unless you have watched one of your best friends head explode out the back and worn his brain matter on your face in defense of your rights and the rights of ungrateful people at home, then I'd say that you don't have much of a dog in the fight. Have you? Have you worn your best friend's brain matter after watching the back of his head explode in front of you? I mean it's entirely possible but generally people who have don't defend burning a flag.

One thing people dont realise about the star spangled banner is that it highlights a battle where the british were bombing the shit out of a fort where the flag was being displayed. They were intentionally firing cannons AT the flag. Each time it began to fall groups of people in the fort ran over to pick it back up so that it would stand again. Until there were bodies stacked so high that it didnt fall. The people in the fort were massacred and the flag was shredded. But it still flew because theyd rather be free than die in servitude. How times have changed.

According to Brittanica, there were 28 deaths, 250 injured, and 50 captured americans. There were over 1000 troops inside the fort, amongst the large population of civilians taking refuge from the nearby city. Something like 1800 shells and 800 rockets were fired at the fort for 25 hours. 19 ships shelled the fort continuously. This story always makes me emotional.

Our politicians may be power hungry and out of control, but average, every day Americans are just like other people, we have pride and love of country. When that song was written, our flag represented an ideal. It was a tiny new flame of an idea that had to be protected at all cost if it was going to survive long enough to become the raging inferno it was to become. But America is no longer that country. We have enemies living amongst us, people who have been taught lies from the cradle and who would willingly destroy their own homes and the homes of their friends and family out of some delusional sense of moral superiority. America's enemies do not respect anyone who doesn't think exactly like them. They do not feel remorse at destroying the lives around them. And they will always lie, cheat and steal to hide their crimes against their countrymen so as not to face the consequences of their foul betrayal. Our flag no longer represents the ideals it once stood for. It may again one day, but not so long as those who wish harm on Americans continue to live among us. Until that day comes, our flag represents nothing so much as greed, corruption and an irrational uniformity of thought and conduct that would terrify any American just a decade or two ago. America has been knocked down from within. But not knocked out. It will be Americans who decide if we are going to allow our homes and our lives to be taken from us.

Yes, the American flag is important to most of us Americans. However, I view it as a symbol for so much more than just our country. One of those things it symbolizes (although it's currently been under threat), is the freedom of speech/expression; even if it is a citizen who protests by "desecrating" the flag or vehemently disagreeing with our Constitution, laws, leaders, elected officials, etc. We are allowed to criticize & mock; even offend. There are limitations such as we _not_ allowed to threaten the health & welfare of persons &/property, incite riots, commit perjury, etc. I can live with that.

Thank you for your comments and your reactions. I enjoyed this immensely. What's sad to me is that even most Americans aren't aware that our national anthem has more than one verse, and the others are just as important and beautiful. I'll paste them here in case somebody's curious. There's even an inspiring unofficial 5th verse that was written during the civil war. My family makes sure to sing all the verses at least once a year on the 4th of July. I hope it can inspire someone today. 2. On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes, What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep, As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses? Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam, In full glory reflected now shines in the stream, 'Tis the star-spangled banner - O long may it wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave! 3. And where is that band who so vauntingly swore, That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion A home and a Country should leave us no more? Their blood has wash'd out their foul footstep's pollution. No refuge could save the hireling and slave From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave, And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave. 4. O thus be it ever when freemen shall stand Between their lov'd home and the war's desolation! Blest with vict'ry and peace may the heav'n rescued land Praise the power that hath made and preserv'd us a nation! Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just, And this be our motto - "In God is our trust," And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave. 5. When our land is illum'd with Liberty's smile, If a foe from within strike a blow at her glory, Down, down, with the traitor that dares to defile The flag of her stars and the page of her story! By the millions unchain'd who our birthright have gained We will keep her bright blazon forever unstained! And the Star-Spangled Banner in triumph shall wave While the land of the free is the home of the brave.
