Mr Balakrishna Prabhu and his wife, Sarojini began a tiny eatery in Kota, 60 years ago, then a little village enroute to Kundapur. Slowly but surely, the reputation of their tasty South Canara vegetarian fare cooked to family recipes grew not just with the support of locals, but travellers too for whom a visit to Hotel Latha was de rigueur after darshan at the famous Shri Amrutheshwari temple, located nearby. And served at prices that most would say are downright cheap in current context. Today the second and third generation father and son duo of Venkatesh and Rajesh Prabu tend to this eatery’s affairs, overlooked by the matriarch of the house, Mrs. Prabhu. Visited Latha Hotel last week on way from Udupi to Goa.Fantastic delicious food .Tasted Menthe dose,buns,goli baje, mude and masala dosa.Must visit place Thanks to the owner for keeping old traditional recipes and traditional taste 👍🙏

Kripal , all GSB konkanis are great cooks , it's saying in Dakshina Kannada , konkanis can make any thing out of any vegetables and grains. Thove shevai and thove moodo is famous house hold dish. Surely next visit to kundapur I will visit this place.

Good morning dear Kripal - Based on your tweet I was eager to watch this Vlog wherein you travelled 450 Kms to try their Menthiya Dosae @ Hotel Latha Veg Kota 👍 Mr Venkatesh Prabhu - the second generation and his son - my namesake are truly humble and pleasing personalities 👍 Yet another iconic hotel which was visited by the legendary,late , Dr Rajkumar and Puneesh ( brings a tear to the eye wherever I see his pic ) . That was an interesting kitchen tour 👍 You , invariably , make it a point to interact with patrons to get a feel of what are some of the popular dishes and their relative combos 👍 Wow - that was a liberal dollop of butter on the Menthiya Dosa ( Recipe of his mother that has been preserved for 60 years ) 👍 I have tried a different type of Menthiya Dosa ( tart ) but without the jaggery . So this is truly unique - It’s truly a great combo of the tartness , crunch and sweet hit of the jaggery 👍👍 It’s time for the Raagi Mudde and the bassaru ( wow what a superb mix of the garam masala , lentils and spices ) . I thought that the green chilli on top of the spinach bassaru might look a tad intimidating for you but you managed to survive 😀😀 Nothing to beat a Shavige with jaggery laced coconut milk combo and glad it provided you the requisite respite of spicy bassaru heat 👍😀 Thanks for the explanation on how the GSB Dal is different from a regular Dal . The Moode with the Pudhina chutney and Veg Kurma seems to be a super fab combo 😋😋 Wow never heard of a Bonda soup - Need to try it for sure 👍👍 I love the Goli Bhaajji . Oh it’s not yet stopped - what do we have now - Sonna Pole ( Chinna Dosa buy flavour bomb of a Dosa ) Post the decadent Kesari Ba’ath yet another unique Navaratna Juice - Oh it’s a concoction of grape juice , ice cream , honey and cashew nut - MUST TRY for me CHIEF !! What a way to end a super fabulous Vlog with a strong filter coffee 👍👍👍 Kudos to Hotel Latha’s owners humility , hospitality and love - The best part is that a ludicrous quantum of dishes just cost you less than Rs 200 - That’s simply amazing 👍👍👍 Will 100% visit this place with my family for sure - Thoroughly enjoyed each and every frame of the Vlog 👍👍 Take care , stay safe and God bless 👍👍🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Have been visiting the temple many times and have not been to this hotel many times as many of our GSB relatives stay nearby so always get pulled to some or the other house for food. It is always nostalgic to see my village food getting recognised and feel proud when it gets all the attention it deserves.GSB food is heavenly 🙏

@Kripal sir Thanks for travelling all the way to a silent town like Kota with a eatery that is famous among locals especially I liked the way the owner and his son attitude who were so.down to earth especially enjoyed the coconut milk along with shavige and menthye dosa this is pakka coastal hotel as they do have most of the dishes which are famous only in coastal region... waiting for tomorrow hopefully will get to see your bike trip vlog

Hello Mr.Kripalamana Hope you are doing well. Thank you is an understatement about your effort to bring to the fore our long lost heritage of amazing culinary cuisines. I see that people from small towns are large hearted and humble and take pride in what they do. My father who is no more was a GSB from udupi. Though we are settled in Hyderabad, he had introduced us to few of the konkani cuisines like goli bajji, mangaluru buns, gashi, the dish with avlakki as a teatime snack and dali thove which was his all time favorite. You just brought back fond memories of my father with your program at latha hotel. Wish and pray that your program goes places and grows heaps and bounds and you help many more like Mr.Prabhu. Menthe dosa is called "surnoli" here in Mangalore side by GSB people. They add "aralu"- layo to it instead of beaten rice here. It can be eaten without any chutney or Sambhar.

Awesome! Been to this place in Feb'20. Tried all their wonderful breakfast items. They are very hospitable and items are reasonably priced. You must try menthya dose at Mayura at Bellur cross. Don't miss it.

Hi Kripal sir, enjoyed your video as usual, your videos are just not only the food vlogs, it gives us joy, tears in our eyes sometimes, gives calmness to mind, provides a lot of vocabulary, I literally pause the video and search for the meaning and usage when I hear a new word( 'odd years' and 'thus far' in this video) from you and make use of it in my future conversations. I request you to visit the places in Andhra Pradesh once in a while along with Sridevi mam. Happy Eating....and drinking..
