My oldest son is in his early 20's and he has type 1 diabetes. But thank God for this piece of article kzbin.infoUgkxVYhghKWmrUgXARZ_ydZTvmmcrw5L0I5i At first he thought he had the flu and was lying down on the bed for three days until his sister took him to the hospital. They took his blood and it was 600. What I do not understand is how he could have gotten it, since no one in the family has it. But he is winning the battle now. This is good stuff.

I read the book 'REVERSING diabetes' by Dr. Neal Bernard over 20 years ago and this was the single source to get me off Diabetes medication. My A1c is currently around 5.6, I would highly recommend anyone with diabetes to read this book.

Now I’m totally confused. I wish someone would come out with a sample diet. So tired of all the mixed messages and no help from my doctors. Every time I research the subject, the sides switch as what I should be eating and what I should be avoiding.

I totally agree no one agrees. It is so confusing. One says the whole food plant based studies are wrong. The others say keto tests are wrong. Totally contradict each other. And my doctor is no help either. I asked my cardiologist and she didn't have q clue and nutritionists don't agree either.

Hon the Doctors finally admitted I was diabetic in 2002 when I had such a bad asthma attack at work, I was repeating my nurses instructions to hang up and call 911. LOL I WAS the H&S person that usually called 911. My BS's were 417 when they got there & 571 when I got to the ER Bed. I've gone thru 4 classes tons of online and individual "consults", spent an average of $7-8,000 a year looking for cures & miracles & now just follow food. All I can say is do not let your disease(s?) run your life. I found 1 doctor who said "You, are the only one within that body, so I need you to keep tabs on everything new, different, good & bad, & how your system reacts. Because I'm good at putting that together" I've had 4 like that in my lifetime. My Cardiologist is like that just wish my others were.

In 2016, I was shocked and appalled that my A1C was 8.6 and at the same time was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I immediately became obsessed with you tube videos with content from doctors like Dr Barnard. I immediately became vegan. This is extremely difficult in my household as my husband is an incredible professional chef. He prepares amazing and very unhealthy meals filled with butter, oils and meat! It was very difficult at times to resist his culinary art so I hopped on a plane and headed to the Optimum Health Institute in San Diego. I completely reversed my diabetes! I went from an 8.6 to a 4.4 A1C. Once I returned, I found a lWFPB Dr. He ordered that I get a biopsy of my thyroid. The result came back as 98% positive for cancer. I was in the hospital 4 days later to have my thyroid removed. But, the endocrinologist was also WFPB. He gave me several options before surgery. The option I chose was for him to remove the half with the lump, send it to frozen pathology while still on the operating table. It cam back NEGATIVE for cancer. He sewed me up and I got to keep the remaining part of my thyroid. My hormone levels were NORMAL!!!!Now its 2022. I have fallen off the wagon and I feel as though I gave my middle finger to my good fortune back then. Im ashamed to say that I started eating my husbands food in addition to not exercising etc. I just went to my doctor because i knew for certain something was wrong with me. I knew my diabetes was back! I just received my blood work and my A1C is 12.7!!!!!! I am disgusted with myself. Especially because I already have the education that prevents diabetes. Surprisingly enough, my hormone levels still remain in normal ranges!!!Now here I am again. Tail between my legs. Day 1. Thank you Dr Barnard for making this content so readily available. Ive done it before. I can do it again. ❤

@@victoriabachmann-osin1946 apples are great if you are also reducing your fat intake like Dr Barnard suggests. I just spent money on some high priced tennis shoes. I think I will spend a little to read his reversing diabetes book and get rid of my pre diabetes. You have to know that pre-diabetes is just diabetes that has not been formally diagnosed yet. However the effects of diabetes are already beginning to happen without being called diabetes. We’ve got a nip this stuff in the bud and stop at well before it becomes truly diagnosable as diabetes. Don’t run from diabetes. Run toward normal blood sugars!

I'm not a doctor. My experience, however has been different in my insulin spikes and A1c, at my last draw I was at 5 for A1c, I'm down 30 lbs and I don't follow a plant based diet. Carbs appear to be my enemy... I introduced potatoes and grain bread and gained weight with major spikes, this was even with a counting calories. I went back to no breads, no potatoes, I eat green leafy vegs, eat meat, have cheese on occasion, Oikos triple zero yogurt etc... and my doctor says at this rate I will be able to come off my insulin. I'm willing to do more non-meat but have been doing fine even with meat.

I respectfully would just like to say, that there’s a lot well researched information available regarding diabetes & insulin resistance & diabetes reversal, that allows for meat & dairy (providing you have no allergies) which cautions against excessive fructose found in fruit. I agree it can get confusing with too many different viewpoints, but it's so important to find what really works regarding diabetes intervention. It’s well worth investing time in some comparative presentations/research.

There's no way you can really look at the research and not see that the less meat, dairy and oil you eat the healthier you are.

Thank you doctor. I vanted to mention something for kids. I belive that activity in the modern world for kids is limited especially in countries that have to much snow. I am grown-up in western of Europe and as a child,I remember that always my joy was to get out and to play with my friends, running and enjoying out on the sun.In the modern world kids are in the car, play inside the house,go in school with parents in the car again. I belive the activity and friendship play a role also in their life. I am not mentioning adults. Thank you very much doctor 🙏 Your advices will help us more.

Dr Bernard, I like the way you explain the diabetes. The question on fat consumption, in one of the video by a nutritionist on Tedx talk, recommended to use high fat, high protein and low carb diet. But you mentioned if we eat more fat it increases insulin resistance. It’s completely different perspectives by qualified medical professionals and confusing more. Can you please throw some light on that topic ?

Hey I think I saw that video! I'm a nurse and have also increased my education beyond nursing school on topics of health and wellness. I wonder if I can shed some light on the topic. It was a lady saying she puts her patients on low carb, normal protein, high fat diets. She does this because fat can't spike blood sugar. She said patients would be cured, as long as they kept eating that way-meaning kept eating low carb. In my mind, her approach very well treats the symptoms of diabetes (having high blood sugar). If you don't take it any glucose, you won't have a lot of glucose in your blood, giving you normal blood sugar. And normal blood sugar over time makes a normal A1C, even if your cells are still jammed up with fat. While having normal blood sugar certainly would help you avoid many complications of diabetes, she doesn't address the cause of diabetes at all, or health overall. It's very well supported that high fat diets cause decreased heart health. She cited a study that showed A1C goes down to non-diabetic levels on her diet. But it didn't say anything about addressing the cause. Just addressing high blood sugar. Admittedly, if someone were to do her diet instead of living off pizza and donuts It would be a lot better. But she doesn't mention the cause of diabetes at its core. I love Dr. Bernard's approach (which is consistent with Dr. Gregor, forks over knifes, and the work of Tony Robbins along with others who have many many patients who years later are still thanking them for healing them from not just Diabetes but many ailments. Look at Dr. Gregor's website/books to see a bounty of breathtaking and high quality research he's collected on the topic of diabetes reversal. I was confused at first too watching that Ted talk. But thinking through it for a few minutes I'm no longer at all conflicted. Low carb may prevent symptoms (while possibly clogging your arteries and causing other problems from a diet high in fat), but plant based will support full healing through and through from everything from diabetes to heart disease to many types cancer.

Hi Dr Barnard. I'm not sure which podcast you discussed fasting. You, as I recall dismissed it, saying that you would use it as an excuse to eat more when you came off the fast. I respect your views, but you really should do some research on the benefits of autophagy where your body after about 18 hours, begins " eating old and damaged cells, including cancer cells. Cancer cells become weaker as they need glucose to thrive. They are not getting that supply when you fast. Please tell people the benefits of fasting and intermittent fasting. Thank you.

Over 20 years ago I was diagnosed diabetic 2, these doctor prescribed the usual Metformin and Crestor for the cholesterol, I study the side effects of these drugs and decided not to take any conventional drugs. I started on my own to select and eat low glycemic food, plenty of exercise and have peace of mind by doing some spiritual exercises. All this time rejecting doctor prescribed drugs from other doctors. Over a year ago my diabetes was affecting my feet, so I decided to follow the Keto diet and life style, I have been doing it for over a year with minimum results, glucose around 200. Now I found Dr. Neal Barnard over a week ago, gave away all the meat in my refrigerator and started the vegan only diet. In only two days I noticed my constipation, gone, my acid reflex, gone, a couple of days after I noticed my mind clearing up and a sense of well being, however my glucose meter is now registering a number close to 400 no matter what I eat, I will continue being vegan to see how long it takes for the reading to drop.

@@myindiemusic4291 Thanks for asking: I consider myself a rebel, I have refused to take manmade drugs for diabetes. I was a contractor in my working years, I got a contract to work for company that builds treatment centers for an industry that grows 17% a year, I traveled to work on several cities where they have a center. I made friends with employees and with some patients, as a result I came to the conclusion that if not all, 95% of the patients were suffering from Diabetes 2 and under doctors care, these labs are the last place they go to before they die and the treatment is " Kidney Dialysis" So, my glucose is still high and so of course is the A1c but I have no symptoms, my eyes, feet, legs are fine, I do exercise a lot, gym for two hours four times a week, meals with no carbs, no sweets, organic food when I find it, I also practice a form of meditation called "Contemplation" so there is no stress in my life. The way I see it is that already live long enough. Also I was not born with this condition, I got it because of poor nutrition, stress and not taking care of my body, therefore by reversing the wrong things I did the body will respond and so far it has. Thanks again
