*My daughter drinks lots of water and urinates with the same rate, there are no other symptoms to show if those have anything to do with diabetes. This is a good information that I have gone through **Diabets.Care** She is 2 years 9 months, hale and healthy, have not done any blood test. But I am not certain if one can get diabetes at such a tender age. Please I will like to know more on that*

My elderly mother went to the doctor's office and said she was transitioning to a vegan diet. He supported it whole-heartedly and told her she's now eating the way we were intended to eat. He made many of the same points as this video did. Since then, she's reversed her prediabetes, lowered her cholesterol, and eased the pain and inflammation of her osteoarthritis. It really works, folks. Both my mother and I have reaped the benefits of a plant-based diet. We will never go back to our old eating habits.

that's great news. my mom was diagnosed with diabetes not even a year ago, and i can tell her overall health is getting worse with arthritis and whatnot things she never suffered from. i feel like giving her all this info is the only way i can help her, but I hope she ends up as open minded as your mother seems to be!

I just wish there were more drs out there that knew even a little about this. I had to go see a new dr and when I asked her if she knew anything about a plant-based diet to help me treat my T2 diabetes, she said, no, but her office recommends Weight Watchers. I told her that since going plant-based I have lost 25 lbs and my blood pressure is phenomenal. She just nodded her head and went on to another subject.

I was so used to pain that I had lost perspective of what it was to feel good. After four month of plant based whole foods I was shocked . I have so much energy that I have had to re plan all of my days. When I get up in the night to use the restroom, I don't walk like Frankenstein with pain in my joints. I practically float with ease! Honestly , one month into it I had a significant difference. My Lupus, Fibromyalgia and rheumatoid are all a thing of the past. You don't have to tell me twice. I'm living proof that animal products are bad. Your body doesn't want them.

It's true though, most American doctors only care about money. In the past, when doctors weren't paid enormously, they cared foremostly about the health of patients and money 2nd, and became doctors because they truly had a calling to help people. Now, they are just shills for huge pharmaceutical companies and become doctors for money first, not for helping others first. Dr. Barnard is an exception to the rule

At about 17:26 he shares about the michondria, the fat burners. To support your body to burn more fat, to speed up your metabolism, intermittent fasting works. Create a 8 hour window, for example, where you eat everyday at 11:00 am to 7:00 pm and fast 16 hours on a vegan diet, the michondra aren't overloaded.

Dr. Barnard is the reason I went whole food plant based a few months ago. Since then, I’m down 20 lbs, have tons of energy, and still losing every day and feeling amazing. My depression and anxiety have improved markedly, and I’m never hungry or counting calories. Of all the doctors, he’s my favorite bc of his kindness in the delivery of his message. I never considered this way of eating when hearing the fanatics rage about why everyone is stupid for not being vegan. It took this man’s common sense approach to make me change, and it’s changed my life. Thanks Doc!

There are some natural remedies that can be used in the prevention and elimination of diabetes totally. However, the single most important aspect of a diabetes control plan is adopting a wholesome lifestyle: Inner Peace, Nutritious and Healthy Diet, and Regular Physical Exercise. The inner peace and self contentment is just a state of mind.People with diabetes diseases often use complementary and alternative medicine. He cited the Japanese diet as an example but the Japanese are not vegetarians, so why conflate their diet with a vegan diet? If levels of pre McDonalds Japan diabetes were very low, and their diet was not vegan, wouldn't that indicate that veganism is not necessarily the answer.

True, but I think the point he was trying to make was that a high carb diet will not cause diabetes. High fat diet (from fatty meat) will cause diabetes and the typical Japanese meal does not contain lot of meat (they mostly eat, rice, fish, tofu, seaweed).

I had a patient who was advised his type 1 diabetes had progressed to type 2 diabetes. He was told that he would need insulin injections for the rest of his life and from a dental perspective, facing a lower success rate of implant surgery. Being needle phobic, he was naturally terrified. After hearing about his dilemma, I shared the effects a whole-food, plant-based diet could have the on prevention and treatment of this chronic disease. 18 months later, he is 20kg lighter with his liver, thyroid and kidney functions healthy too. His blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol have also stabilised. It was amazing to see one of my patients come off their medications, having reversed his type 2 diabetes. His GP was also amazed having witnessed how a plant-based diet became a powerful tool in managing and reversing his type 2 diabetes - despite being convinced it was a life sentence.

I reversed my diabetes on a low carb, moderated protein, high fat diet and lost 50 pounds. After 6 months though, I am still insulin resistant. If I eat more than 20 carbs in a meal (last time onions and carrots with a roast) my blood glucose spikes. But as long as I stay away from root veggies and starches I'm fine. My HDL and triglycerides are real good too. Like many on my diet, I avoid all processed and fast foods. In time, on this diet, I believe that I will heal and become more insulin sensitive. This is what works for me.

Excellent presentation.. In India great yoga gurus like Swamy Yukteswar Giri (Science of religion, 1894) wrote and explained with scientific facts why humans are actually " fruitarians ".. Following a raw fruits and vegetables diet not only helps lose weight, but brings down sugar levels to normal within a few days.. An occasional water fast and about 25 minutes of walking will increase energy levels.. Indians have known this for 5000 years at least.. But the so-called " educated illiterates " in India followed the western, and especially, American fast food culture and have become increasingly diabetic and heart patients!!! It's great to see Americans learning the virtues of pure vegetarian diets!!!

I have tried low fat veg diet without control on carbs, initially seemed to work, but in long term failed miserably because without fat one does not get enough calories to remain active, tend to make up with lots of carb, raising blood sugar. To get rid of diabetes type 2,I switched over to keto diet, which means getting 70% calories from good fat( cow ghee, butter, olive oil, coconut oil),25% protein ( not from milk,or wheat flour,)and 5% from carbs. This has worked wonderfully well,my Hb1c dropping from 10 to 5.Hence I do not agree with whatever is mentioned in this video.Eating lots of vegan to get carb, protein, and minerals and vitamins is good, but not without good fats.

Dr. Barnard is telling you the absolute truth, and I am living proof. I'm a long time Vegan , but it wasn't until I studied Dr. Barnard's, Dr. Esselstyn, Dr. Klaper, and PHD T. Colin Campbell's works that I realized I needed to quit salt, oil, and sugar. I was living on mostly Korean food minus the meat. Then on 7-1-17 I quit Korean food which I loved after 42 yrs. of eating it, Korean food is full of s., o., and s.. After 10 week I quit I quit 5 meds., 2 were for blood pressure, 1 was a Statin for my Cholesterol, and in just 10 wks. I lost 17 pounds, and my Arthritis. My blood pressure was great, and then in Nov., I checked my LDL, and it was 61. My primary was totally baffled by all this, and I told him if he had overweight people with high blood pressure here's the answer, and he says no one's going to eat like that, and besides our Mothers taught us how to get our nutrition. Just eat your eat, and drinks you milk. I gave him 3 DVD's from the above Docs., and him being 71 refused to watch them. Sadly this is the mindset of so many Doctors. They're totally in the dark about nutrition, what's good and bad for your body. These are the people that are suppose to be getting us better, and all they're really good for is writing you a prescription for some poison. I don't trust the average Doc. they just don't really know what's going on. Dr. Barnard tells you how to handle you Diabetes in this vid., and this is nowhere even close to what the average Doc. will tell you. Without that prescription pad they're lost, they're all stuck in that old mindset the way they were trained, and they don't want to hear anything else. I'm 70 yrs. old, and have had two failed back surgeries and because of my back I can't exorcise. So last wk. I went to a urologist, and he didn't know anything about me. He tells me to take off my shirt and drop my pants down to my knees, he then looks at my body and right away he says, oh you work out? Most people think this, and the truth is when your eating a Vegan diet without s., o., and s., you'll find that all those hrs. in the gym aren't necessary, sure exercise is good for you, but you don't need all those hrs. of exercise to look and feel good. I don't normally even comment, but I felt like I needed to tell my story, and let you know everything these above Docs. including Dr. Barnard is saying is so true. These men are my heros, and for good reason, thank goodness for these Docs. mentioned above.

Dear Doctor Barnard, I bought your book about the reversal of Diabetes. My husband has been diabetic for about ten years now but he has been very sick for about 5 years, that was when we noticed his situation because he lost a lot of weight all of a sudden (I must mention that all his family is diabetic and many have already died because of it). Now, his sugar is all over the place going up and down without any control. I tried to help him with this diet (I have been following your diet for about 2 years and feel great!) but he was very scared because in just a couple of days of trying his sugar dropped down so dramatically that we were about to take him to the hospital. He gets all shaky, cold and loses conscience...So he is very afraid to try again... What can I do? I know this is the way for healing but I am so worried first, that his sugar gets so low that could be dangerous, and second, that he loses more weight (he is already very thin and weak). I would appreciate your advice on how to proceed, this is very important for me because unless he goes back to normal soon, he will have very serious problems in a short time. Thank you for your help in advance..... Lucy

I have a lot of time for Dr Barnard but one thing I'm just not getting here is that the graph shown at 3:47 shows the fat intake was rising from 1955 to 1975 but had already levelled off by the 1980's. So I don't get how that can be tied to a pre-post 1980 level of diabetes. Am I missing something?

I was recently diagnosed with diabetes type 2 with a very high A1C. After purchasing a glucose monitor and much research, I discovered that meat does not raise my blood sugar. However, if I eat any grain products such as bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes and sweets my blood glucose goes up significantly. I have been following this way of eating now for a little over a month and feel so much better. I have not gained any weight at all. I wished like Dr. Barnard says that I could eat all the carbs that I wanted which is what I was doing when I was diagnosed but for me it unequivocally does not work.

This does not tell the whole story. Glucose and carbohydrate rich foods are a threat to T2 diabetics. How do I know? I’m a T2D, and a vegetarian / vegan. I din’t have meds, but I monitor my blood sugar. If i eat carb-rich foods I spike. On a normal vegan diet I struggle to keep my bloods within the advised range. If I eat vegan-based carb rich foods my HbA1c rises above the comfort zone. I say to T2D’s ignore carb intake at your peril. Monitor your blood sugars with an inexpensive BG meter, keep a record of your results and a diary of what you eat. In that way you will have a rational way of knowing what to eat.

Because industrialization has led to water sanitation which kills all bacteria in water, even the type that creates B12. It shows to me that meat, dairy and seafood are still direct and rife with bacteria. That's all it tells me.

There are some natural remedies that can be used in the prevention and elimination of diabetes totally. However, the single most important aspect of a diabetes control plan is adopting a wholesome lifestyle: Inner Peace, Nutritious and Healthy Diet, and Regular Physical Exercise. A state of inner peace and self-contentment is essential to enjoying good physical health and overall well-being. The inner peace and self contentment is just a state of mind.People with diabetes diseases often use complementary and alternative medicine. I was diagnosed with diabetes, I Was at work feeling unusually tired and sleepy. I borrowed a glucometer from a co-worker and tested at 760. Went immediately to my doctor and he gave me prescriptions like: Insulin ,Sulfonylureas,Thiazolidinediones but I Could not get the cure. I manly eat a plant based diet. But Pizza has always been my go to comfort food. It's one of the few foods I turely enjoy. Except being slightly overweigt, I was physically healthy overall. So after eating plant based for a while lost alot of weight. I decided I just had to have some comfort food once in a while. If I eat a plant based diet and then have a cheat day of Pizza every two weeks or less. And if Pizza is the only meal I eat that day. I can manage that. My body will rid of it pretty quickly if I follow a plant based diet most of the time. I just can't say goodbye to Pizza for good. And Pizza with no cheese, just isn't Pizza. And Vegan cheese is not really available here. And you can't really order any Vegan Pizza either. Very rare where I live.

OK, here is the thing . . . . He can be a professional doctor who has lots f experience in his profession, but with all do respect I totally disagree with some of his narrations based on hearing and learning things from other professional doctors. For instance, according to his charts and graphs 32:58 he is showing that a person who has A1C of 7.0 or below he called it controlled. Most professionals called 5.5 of A1C or below is controlled. Second, most professionals recommend low carb diet with a lot of veggies and moderate amount of protein and fat including olives and olive oil for a better health. Third, most expertise said that the reason the cell won't take that extra glucose into the cell is that b.c of the sugar inside the cell turned into fat after sitting there for a while if it is not burned, not b.c of the animal fat. Sorry to say this but his lecture as many flaws and errors.

You are absolutely right. Diabetes was called sugar diabetes fifty years ago and it's been forgotten since it has been changed to D2. Even Neils first picture of the Mac food was 70% carbs, the bun, the potato chips. All vegans blame the meat, they have nothing else to blame. He has five or six doctors that back him and they're all American, all belong the Seventh Day Adventist Church which is vegan and have a lot of money in vegan foods so they like their people to make them a lot of money. There are hundreds of doctors that can put diabetes into remission on a fat and meat and vegetable diet so that proves this doctor wrong or a blatant liar.

yes a balanced whole food plant based diet is good for very thin people. I actually gained weight on it--my diet was very set while I was working at Wiemar Institute and eating in their dining hall for all my meals--a whole plant food diet with no fractionated(overly processed) foods or free oils. I gained 14 pounds in the first four and a half months and then my weight stabilized for the rest of the year. I was too thin before and became a healthy weight during my tenure there. I was exercising before , during and after working for the institute--so that was not a factor. My weight has stayed approximately the same since then-almost 20 years later. Every time I go to see my physician and have blood work done, he laughs a bit as he says I always have "perfect" numbers. My genetic family background is full of diabetes, strokes, cancer, heart bypass surgeries, etc. Some family members have been very thin and some overweight, but lifestyle and dietary wise they triggered genes and biological processes that made them disease prone.
