My biggest fear of getting braces was how restricted my diet would become. But after the first few weeks of your mouth and jaw getting used to the movement, you can eat pretty much anything within reason. Just be very careful, and cut foods into smaller portions so you can place it on the back side of your teeth. The only issue I ever had was steak fat, as it can fit between teeth easily, while being tough enough to bend a wire. Now I cut large portions of fat off of my meat. Also if you're going to have something sugary, try to rinse your mouth out with water as soon as possible to keep sugar from setting in on teeth.

When you get used to them you can eat almost everything without any problem. As for gums, I dont suggest it because is very sticky. If I need to chew something like gum, I suggest halls.

Worse food advice ever. My orthodontist literally told me and GAVE ME A SIGN telling me info for my braces. I have bent a wire, broken off a bracket, moved a bracket over, and taken no care whatsoever to what i eat.
