Hi Mark, I feel sorry for those whose first language is Scots, I know a lot of their words sound similar to English but surely where appropriate the signs should in all three languages. In Spain where there are several official languages things like menus in restaurants have to be in four of the most commonly used languages. A slight problem happened in Majorca where a restaurant followed the rules and the four languages were German, Dutch, English and the local Majorcan variation of Catalan.........not Spanish.

In July 1961, a dual language sign was erected at Marston in Bedfordshire. It said "Train Operated Signals and Barrier Ahead" and "Passaggio A Livello Automatico". No one working at the local brickworks moaned about it, in fact is championed as many of the workers spoke Italian. It was to warn people about the new (and British Railways second) automatic level crossing. As a trainspotter I have recently become interested in Polish railways, where the signs are in Polish with English in a smaller type face underneath. The the on board announcements as the train is about to arrive in a station "Następna stacja to Warszawa Zachodnia, tu przesiądź się na lokalne pociągi i autobusy. The next station is Warsaw West, change here for local trains and buses." The Poles don't seem to get upset, perhaps the "British" in Northern Ireland would like to look at how other countries embrace dual languages.

Thankfully in Scotland all our road signs / place names have been updated to using both Gaelic and English languages. This was brought in by our Pro Scottish Independence Scottish Government from 2007 onwards when the SNP took over from the Labour Party (whom are unionists)....No issues have occured anywhere. Mind you almost 2 thirds of people (62.4 %) in Scotland identify in the last published census in 2011 as ''Scottish Only'' , whereas only 8.37 % identify as 'British Only' Hence 'hard core unionism in Scotland is very much a small minority of people. The new census taken in 2022 is due out anytime soon , and it's guaranteed that an even highher number of people in Scotland will now identify as Scottish only and not British ;) It's clear the remaining hard core unionists in Northern Ireland feel more and more marginalised and 'out of date' with the times. Everything they stand for is backward thinking and most of Europe and the world laughs at it and thinks it's an insane approach to modern life. It's well known that the Orange Order etc have really been struggling to recruit young people these last 10 , 20 years or so, and hence it's safe to say 'unionism' is a dying breed (thankfully) as it benefits no-one (not even the unionists) The best they can hope for is if Dr Who were to come along with his Tardis and give them all a lift back to 1690 (or whatever time they want to feckin live in 🤪🤪🤪....even then they'll probably be just as angry..especially when they find out their beloved William Of Orange was on a mission endorced by the Pope and that he was part of the LGBT community 🤣)

Territories are marked out by British and Irish flags and painted kerbstones. Even if you haven't been in a Catholic church in 50 years you're regarded as a Catholic because that's your tribe and you're assumed to be a Nationalist. It's a completely dysfunctional society and totally different to the rest of Ireland or GB. Sad. And yet the people are mostly lovely. Strange.
