Whenever you feel the urge to laugh, just remember the DUP not only always rejected the GFA but supported Brexit to make the EU put up a customs border in ireland to break the GFA for them. And they are still working on sabotaging the GFA. The EU and WTO have been much too lenient with the UK and its exceptional idea of unilaterally breaking international law "in a very specific and limited way" so far. Just as a mental exercise, imagine the harsh, immediate and in no way lenient responses of the EU and the USA if those dinosaurs manage to make the UK fulfill their dream. Just list in your head the top 3 measures you would have to expect. The funny things brexiteers claim to be punisment by the EU for brexit will be childs play in comparison.

@@richardbutler4488 The "NOT FOR EU" label has nothing to do with health and safety or food safety for that matter. It's a customs and SPS control mechanism that enables the use of the green lane for goods entering NI from GB with the minimum of paperwork. Excise duty on alcohol and tobacco is a separate issue. Some countries have excise control labels, some don't. Excise is paid as soon as alcohol and tobacco products leave bond and are placed on the local market whether in ROI or the UK or in any other country. In that context you'll also see the same UK (HMRC) Duty Paid labelling on Bushmills Whiskey and Scotch Whisky in retail outlets all over the UK.

They wanted this because they didn't want to admit that brexit was a bad idea. So every time a brexit problem comes up, they try and implement a bureaucracy patch. Now the objective is to score the least amount of goals.

While at the moment UK produced products are still likely to comply with EU standards, this might gradually change, and indeed, the EU is very wise to avoid non complying products entering via a backdoor, being export from England/Scotland/Wales to Northern Ireland, and then over the non-checked border to Ireland. Some UK standards might be ‘higher’ then EU standards, but there is no guarantee for this, and market pressure and some UK laws doing away with EU standards might for many products in the long term create too large compliance problems. Once more, the UK did NOT think this through before announcing a Brexit referendum, and afterwards very badly managed the type of Brexit. There is no other sollution then Northern Ireland de facto getting much closer to Ireland and the EU.

No. Other businesses in Britlund were *not* required to do the labelling. It was *only if* a business was exporting outside Britain, *to NI.* Bcoz exporting to EU would be irrelevant to such labelling as you would already have your export & regulatory/food safety paperwork in order. Labelling was the alternative "cost" option to doing ALL the paperwork to meet EU food safety & farming standards (something that USA, Australia, Egypt and every other 3rd Country, non-EU Nation, is obliged to do!). All the British Government had to do ahead of Brexit was: - Provide Businesses with FREE advice, support, education on what would be required of them in export paperwork post-Brexit. *OR* - simply subsidise the food labelling. EU and Ireland *will not stand for* yet another subversion of the Withdrawal, Protocol, and Windsor Framework Agreements. Especially so immediately after the widespread & *British* Political Party incited, British AND Northern Ireland, anti-immigration Riots threatened the potential legitimate triggering of Article 16 (as was the intent of the Reform/ReclaimUK incitors via their on-street puppet Tommy Robinson)
@chattyrat33542 сағат бұрын
Not quite correct. As part of the "Strengthening the Union" deal that the DUP agreed with the Tory Government, it was proposed to extend the Windsor Framework's "NOT FOR EU" labeling requirement for GB produced food products placed on the market in NI to all retail outlets in GB. The DUP demanded this extension so that they wouldn't feel less British. HMG has seen the light and put an to this proposed extension, which ironically was not to apply to NI producers placing produce on the GB market, There has been no subversion of the Withdrawl Agreement and Windsor Framework in this instance as this proposed extension, which made no sense whatsoever, was not sought by the EU. The Windsor Framework's "NOT FOR EU" labeling requirement for GB produced food products placed on the market in NI remains in place. Furthermore, medicines for human consumption placed on the NI market by GB producers from 1 January 2025 onwards will have to be labelled "FOR UK ONLY".

The solution to Northern Ireland having problems getting goods from Great Britain is for the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland to collaborate on a rail tunnel from North Wales to the Republic of Ireland. We give the Republic of Ireland "customs free passage" through Wales and England to France for freight trains. In return they give Northern Ireland "customs free passage" through the Republic of Ireland to Wales for freight trains. In addition we connect HS1 to HS2, make a spur off through North Wales to the new tunnel and have international passenger trains that go from France through England, Wales, Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Everyone gets to reduce air flights and switch more freight to trains and we all get to lower pollution and climate change. But this requires cooperation. It would be easier if we had stayed in the EU.
