The way it was explained to me is that scouts who favor tools are more likely to find that 1 in a million superstar, whereas scouts who favor ability will find far more solid major league quality players.

Mostly related question (I keep meaning to look it up but I don't bother to while playing the game, and then I think about it at work but the OOTP site is blocked) How exactly does the game decide how many stars to give a player? Is it affected on favor tools/favor ability, or a static formula based on their ratings? There seem to be a lot of times where a player with juicy potential ratings is only a 2-star potential, while another guy who doesn't look that great to me has 4-star potential. Now, I'm sure part of this is that I forget to look at defensive ratings a lot, but I've also noticed in the player development updates that sometimes a guy's current/potential ratings go up, but his current/potential overall goes down (or vice versa). That doesn't make any sense. Somewhat related, and maybe this will be covered in #15, but why don't defensive ratings show potential? They do seem to change, and it's not like physical attributes that don't develop (mostly). Finally: why does my scout say Byron Buxton has only 65 speed? Is he just unhinged? If I can get a court to involuntarily commit him to a mental health facility, would that enable me to fire him without eating the rest of his contract?

Haven't seen all your vids yet but if you haven't already, an off season scouting/free agency tutorial would be cool

Still in the process of making these, free agency is definitely a must-do. I'd expect a video on that in the next week or so. Thanks for watching!

Did you ever do a video about coaches and what the different ratings mean and how they impact the development of a player?

I was wondering this myself and actually switched out all my minor league managers to ones that had at least average or better influence. No idea if this is the right way to go and would love some input on the issue. Great vids this may have sat unplayed if not for your desire to share knowledge

I wonder if you could comment on the correlation between coaching and development budget....I can’t seem to find any consistency in player development despite maxing out the budget and having what appears to be an ok coaching staff at all levels. Even players with high degrees of work ethic often bounce up and down in their ratings? Any suggestions?

These are great! Any tips for hiring coaches for the minors?
