I love Isle of Paradise body bronzer, such a pretty color on my fair skin and if there’s an oops moment I can wash it away. It drys down quickly, never see it on my clothes. Plus it makes my 58 year old skin look smoother, ie, younger! Love it!!!

Love that you did this, I'm going to order Jules water's immediately! I have not been successful with self tanners, only manage to make myself look like I have vitiligo. That and I get tired of smelling like corn chips mixed with funky sock smell! Would have loved this to be a live stream so we can ask questions. I've yet to find a moisturizer for after tanning that does not break down the tan. Anything with oil, glycerin or aloe Vera always breaks down my tan so I don't use moisturizer and get to walk around with tanned dry legs!

HIIII! I do live tanning Q&A videos on my instagram, I'll be doing one soon. A moisturiser may feel like it's breaking the tan down, but actually it's also encouraging an even fade. If your tan is fading too quickly for you, just ramp up your tanning regime applying a lighter layer of tan every 3 days to enjoy a more continuous glow. XX

I wish I'd known about the moisturising a few years ago, legs were fine but I looked like I'd stuck used teabags to my heels they went so brown. Managed to tone them down with a green scrubber and some Mr muscle (other cleansers available 😀). On the subject of mits though Primark do a beautiful velvet tan application glove with thumb for £3.50, they're fantastic (on a par with the makeup cloths). I'm very tempted to try Jules' tan now having seen this, fab advice! X

Splash your face with cold water before you apply your tan. I would recommend using the drops, just two in with your moisturiser - other tans you might have tried could contain high levels of fragrance that will cause breakouts. XX

Hi! During chemotherapy the amino acids are stripped from the skin so self tan doesn't take very well, if at all. However, patients can use DISCO Tan by Isle of Paradise, an instant body bronzer that sits on top of the skin like make up, as opposed to reacting with it. The tan washes off with warm soap and water and gives a great glow to the skin and minimises that translucent appearance. X

Hello! This depends on which self tanner you are picking as many are formulated for the body only and not the face (resulting in breakouts, drying of the skin and blocked pores). Isle of Paradise is suitable for face and body, the drops just add in with your moisturiser, the water just spray directly onto the face like a facial mist or toner, the mousse mix half a pump with your facial moisturiser on a mitt and sweep over the skin. XX

I have never used a self tanner, and I’ve tried many, without my clothes discoloring. I’m not talking about sheets on the night I use the self tanner, but days later even after multiple showers. I have ruined, therefore having to throw away so many pieces of clothing. I like to feel clean, and self tanners always make me feel dirty. I haven’t tried yours, and it’s entirely possible that your formulation is different. But can you honestly look at the inside collar of a light colored shirt you’ve worn and not see discoloration? If so, I’ll try your products. Thank you.

Sinead Whelan before tanning, exfoliate and then shave legs. You can get a gradual tan lotion to use on the days after to keep the color. You can still shave and should not have any issue. Hope this helps!

Sinead Whelan I have shaved my legs and exfoliated straight before self tanning and it went well. But really depends on you skin and the thickness of your hair. If you want to make sure that you won’t get any spotty marks, shave the night/day before.

As an expert I advise shaving your skin 24 hours prior to a self tan application. I have some clients who shave their legs just moments before I tan them, for some this isn't a problem but for others their skin burns a bit (it's so fresh from just being shaved!). If you're going to shave directly before you tan, splash your legs with cold water to close your pores. If you shave every day, you may find the tan will fade quicker on the skin and like Jessica says here, applying a gradual tan will top the tan back up, or apply another layer of self tan using the Isle of Paradise drops mixed in with your moisturiser XX www.boots.com/search/isle+of+paradise

What about tans for brown women? We want our summer color, despite being covered in sun protection as well. I wonder if the darkest one would give a natural glow. I saw someone use a tan tint, but that’s like a makeup. It would be especially good on my comparatively pale legs.

I like jergens gradual tanner winter, especially my arms which are usually covered. Also, bondisands "ultra dark" topped with a body oil gives a nice natural glow....its not even that dark

Whatever your skin tone - you can use self tan. Isle of Paradise Violet range is perfect for darker skin tones - it removes that 'ash' complexion or any uneven tones in the skin. The range reacts with YOUR skin tone and your amino acids so you will develop into a colour that is reflective of your skin tone. X

Gita Yahyai it shouldn’t be an issue but avoid any moisturizers with ingredients that encourage cell turnover (like retinoids and AHAs) so that they don’t disrupt the tan.

Hi. I use RetinA 0.05% on my face every night. Will self tanners not work for me? I have used Tan Luxx tanning drops recently which worked ok-ish but I had to use every night to maintain the slight colour change and the denat alcohol irritated my face so had to stop. Currently searching for a replacement with non irritating ingredients that works. Can you recommend one? Thanks :-)

HI! So a ReinA will increase cell turnover and will therefore not allow the tan to react effectively. However, I understand where you're coming from here. If I were you, I would apply the ReinA at night, but in the morning spray your face with Isle of Paradise Water after you apply your moisturiser for an ongoing glow. X

Mousses work a treat as they are mixed with air so glide through the follicle. Buff excess tan off your hair afterwards using a dry facecloth x

Go for the end color - if you're fair, and you hate applying it - then go dark. It will last the longest. The drops are REALLY easy to apply FYI. X

If Isle of paradise has no guide colour, how can you tell that you've rubbed it all over properly?

Our mousse has a guide colour so you can see where you're going when sweeping it onto the skin. For the drops, you're mixing it in with your moisturiser so if you completely cover your skin with your moisturiser you've effectively tanned it at the same time. The water you spray onto the skin like a body mist, rubbing it in and washing your palms for glowy complexion. If you're nervous about it being transparent, choose the mousse! XXX

Thanks for all the info and tips. One question that I’ve not heard addressed is about areas (particularly on the inside of the thigh and calf) that self tan to a much lighter color than the rest of my leg. I have to do these areas twice as compared to the once for the rest of my legs. What’s happening here? Thanks

Because our skin is much thinner here, at times the tan needs that extra push into the skin so you are 100% taking the right measure by applying twice. A mousse will give you the deepest colour as you're quite literally pushing it into the skin XX

I would love to hear the expert answer on this as well. I don’t know the answer but in my experience the tanning solutions with Erythrulose make me a bit orange. I prefer the dha or one with a combo of both ingredients. ❤️

Brenda Higgins Moberg, I think the problem is that it’ll break the tan down faster (as would any mechanical/chemical exfoliant). It won’t be harmful to use them, it just might affect the longevity and evenness of the tan.

You can, just not on the day of application. A bha, aha or retinoid will encourage a tan to fade quicker and therefore you may have to apply twice a week for a more ongoing glow. X

With the water, spray the face just once like you would a face mist, drops add 2-4 drops in with your moisturiser, mousse mix half a pump with moisturiser on your mitt. X
