This explains my love for automobiles and motorcycles eventhough I don't ride them....I would buy encyclopedia type books and do research ...I grew up during the 70's and 80's....my Dad had Chevrolets, Plymouths, Oldsmobiles, Buicks, and Cadillacs...he even had a AMC Javelin AMX...he worked on his cars and drag raced on the streets or at the drag strip tracks...he had 10 speeds and my grandparents had Beach Cruisers....he worked on those too....taught me how to do basic maintainence and repairs on my bikes including a old Scwinn that I tried to make look like a more modern BMX to race Huffys and Mongooses...I would have other bikes...10 and 15 speeds....Huffys and Mongooses I would win from racing....good times!

My mom won a Stingray in a contest in the 1960’s at a local drug store. You had to guess how many candies were in a big jar. My mom used vitamins of a similar size and filled a jar with them and counted them. She was the closest and won. She later gave it away for a garage sale of a friend of her’s along with a ten speed that I bought with money I earned. My parents occasionally gave my things away for some reason. It did not have brakes, you just pedal "Backwards" to slow down, or on a really steep hill, use your foot in the front tire to help slow you. I had a 1971 Schwinn bike, ape hanger handle bars, banana seat, red color. Not as fancy as the one you are showing. Great looking Redline bike! Hope you enjoy it, and have a great lock for it!

The actual mileage between qpipes, ditch jumps, woods tracks, and death jumps was on an Olympic training level. Didn't mean anything to ride 15 miles a day.
@ryanschaff1234 жыл бұрын
15 miles one way a day was nothing. That was just kids in the 90s commuting to their friends houses or to the skate park everyday during summer break. For a lot of us not growing up in America and not in just in a handful of cities, bikes were our entire basis of transportation that linked us between nothing whatsoever and anything and everything whatsoever outside of a landline telephone.

Who knew Chip Foose also has a passion for bicycles? Really nice assortment. He has a bargaining "chip" that almost nobody else could use, if a collector has a bike he wants, Foose can always trade him for awesome automobile work!

Was glad to see the Krate. Those were the pinnacle of bikes when I was a kid. Like driving a Ferrari to a ten year old in the late 60's.

It's a relief that Chip is into bikes ! I thought mine had been stolen last week, but it's obviously a prank and Chip will present me with my overhauled bicycle anytime soon ! :D

Bikes are life...or certainly were before cars, motorcycles & goddamn women. I'm absolutely fascinated by that chainless - off to Google I go.

Hi Chip, I never seem to be surprised by your sincerity and humbleness. I had a blue BMX Webco with a Haro number plate with blue anodized rims. Never was able to table top, though😢. My skateboard of choice was a Sims Brad Bowman, with Tracker Trucks and Peralta wheels. Still a kid at heart😜.

Hey Foose, those are Campagnolo Cranks on that Redline BMX. Not "Shimano."

To be a kid all over again, what a dream. I've tried to find one of my childhood bikes, was called the "big tube", but haven't been that lucky. Maybe in the future. Thanks for sharing.

Whoa Chip was a shredder. I had a Redline 800p circa 1986, my world revolved around it. Parted it out to friends that needed parts they couldn't afford. Man I wish I still had it.

Best bike video I have seen! I was 9 when that Redline came to market and it was all my friends talked about every day until they got one, “Redline Proline”, you would think it could fly, most glorified toy in kid history.

Also, that's an MX-II frameset, not a Pro-line, and the hubs are Bullseye, not Cook Bros.

Chip, thanks for sharing the bikes. I love the older ones because they are basically art pieces now. That Redline was pretty sweet. I had a Hutch Pro Racer that I totally customized. I brought it with me when I moved to CA in 1996. I was working at Hard Rock Universal, and one of our bussers needed a way to get to work. I "lent" him my bike, and I never got it back. Something happened and he stopped working. I would dearly love to have that bike. It was a truly custom as it was a mixture of brands that not too many would have put together. I don't know where to start in trying to track it down. I got into mountain biking in 2016 and it changed my life.

I stumbled across this video, but how cool! I'm the same, lots of bike memories, and I've got several. I got the Haro Team Sport that was the ultimate bike of my childhood in the 1980's was remade in 2017 and it looks just like it. It was way too expensive for us at the time, but I bought it now and it's hanging in my house as art. My dad loved the Crate bikes (And hot rods btw, HUGE hot rod guy) and had an original Orange Peeler for me to ride when I'd come visit as a kid. (He lived in CA, I lived in Ohio) I built some skateboards too I remember from growing up, when we were poor and couldn't afford the cool ones. I worked in a bike shop for four years as a mechanic and in sales. I was a roadie, pounding miles on like crazy for my Tour de France dreams, but I also rode MTB, trials, and BMX. Bicycles were main only form of transportation for years, and I live by Cleveland. The year we set a record low temp in the Winter of -21 F, I rode my bicycle to work. The chain froze and wouldn't go through the derailleur, the bearings in the headset froze and I couldn't steer and crashed several times, but I got there about 5 miles away. Once I got there it was closed due to extreme temps, so I had to turn around and ride all the way home, haha. Lots of bike love. Now I just use them to not be so fat, haha. Cool collection!
