2:17 - 2:23 That is something I’ve honestly NEVER thought of, but it makes perfect sense!!! I am learning so much from you; so for that I thank you! I have chronic pain, arthritis, bursitis and tendinitis in several joints, plus a host of other medical problems, most stemming from a 75mph crash with a semi truck...15 years ago. Every doctor I’ve ever seen has told me that I’ll never be well enough to get off the medications that I’m taking. However, I’m now on less than half of the meds I was taking 5 years ago because I tapered off of them myself. My ultimate goal is to be completely free from all pharmaceuticals (except maybe my thyroid meds...but I’m learning there’s tinctures that may help with that too). You are the FIRST person who has given me hope that I’ll be able to achieve my goal. For that, I can’t thank you enough. Being free from these medications would literally be life changing. I would be able to do so much more, in both my own personal life, and also in the lives of the animals that I rescue. Thank you again for sharing your story (Mindful Warrior and veganism) through your videos. You are such an inspiration!

tHis is why i started doing taiji 30 years ago Tim. These videos are awesome! Inoticed in China,and here in the states that most youth have no interest in taiji, because it moves so slowly. And most teachers are afraid to slow down a 30 minute form to 60 minutes. I was lucky enough to have a teacher who did, and had the same thought streams you are voicing here now,,,,,it's so cool to hear and watch you put it out there. This is a great way to get a younger,,,action based crowd to slow down, and really feel, and experience their bodies. Your one legged knee bends are awesome,,,I rarely see anyone do them with a straight back. My old Chinese teacher, in his broken English, used to say,,,,the slower you can go,,,the faster you can go.......simple,,,but true!

Hi Tim. I can't help thinking when I see your Mindful Warrior movements if you ever did a Movnat workshop or certification? Many of the basic movements you do can also be found in the Movnat curriculum. Now that might just be coincidence, since Movnat is a method that practices real human movement. I did the Movnat trainer certification myself a couple of years ago and some of my favourite movements are the basic ones like the deep squatted balance walk on a rail - I love that stuff. Well, I hope that you do a workshop in Barcelona sometime, that would be awesome. I could even help you look for good spot to have the workshop.

I think you should look to always touch the ground with the forefoot rather than the heel. Most people know that by now about running, but the shock sent through your leg, albeit less pronounced than when running, is still absorbed inefficiently in the body (this has been tested and shown true by biomechanists), even in more relaxed movements such as walking and moving between one-legged squats (you would never think landing on your heels after a jump or jerk is good for you-moving down the steps onto your heel is basically the same-and whether knowingly or not, forefoot landing is what you do instinctively when you walk backwards). Heel striking is really a function of the body trying to save energy (with assistance of fancy shoes and to the detriment of the skeleton and fascia). For that reason, forefoot landing is actually a better way to train too because it recruits more muscles throughout the movement. Just something to think about-hope this is useful.
@TimShieff7 жыл бұрын
I used to think this with running but actually running with a relaxed ankle seems to be better and more natural for longer distances with more of a midfoot strike. Can strain the ankles and achilles if you adjust to simply forefoot striking for every run from never doing it.
@MandatoryPunditory7 жыл бұрын
Interesting and a valid point. Balance is key, true. I'll have to give it a try and see how it feels. Thank you.
@likewaterjkd6 жыл бұрын
i agree mid foot is most durable for long distance, tippy toes is for people with very strong ankles and fitness like soccer players, its ultimately about which muscles and joints in our feet / calf / legs etc can deal with taking the immediate impact for the longest and it may sound stupid or weird but making sure you bend your knees enough on landing foot might be over looked, you should start out making sure you get that bend timing correct to get that muscle memory fired up so you dont get one of those weird muscle / tendon pulls / strains.

I recently came across your channel and I realy like what you're doing. Here a little recomendation: Check out barefoot-runnig- or forefoot-running-technik. It is about landing on the forefoot while running instead of on the heel and is considered to be the way our ancestors ran. It makes every step much softer and more springy because as Davinci said, the human foot is designd very complex, like a pefectly eficent spring. It improved my lifestyle by much! And it makes walking down stairs feel more natural because you do not land on your hard heel bone. Check it out, I think it is somehting for you!:)

Wonderful! Thank you! The world needs more natural leaders like you! Do you know Feldenkrais? If you don’t already i think you’ll find it fascinating and exactly what you’r talking about. Mind and movement as one, inherent in our design and adaptation. Moshe Feldenkrais has died but he wrote a number of books and has many disciples who teach but not all the teachers are the same.

Try (and research) FOREFOOT walking and running. Land on your forefoot when you go down stairs, and with every step you make. Stick out your butt, tilt your torso forward, and bend your knees low in every step. Never let your heel be the first point of contact. Do pistol squats on your tip toes. That is the way I found.

Is it safe to bare weight on a leg with the knee in front of the foot? This is a big no-no in the yoga practice
@replenishrewire47587 жыл бұрын
What if you have a leg length discrepancy? Should I be walking around in bare foot when one leg is slightly longer than the other causing my posture to be off. Or should I be wearing an insole to correct the difference. I want to be as natural as possible but what do you do when you have such issues where the body is out of alignment due to bone length?
