@CalgaryHyundai13 Even in areas that are not prone to earthquakes, large parking garages are built to withstand alot of shaking. They have to withstand the forces of multiple vehicles of various weights driving around at various speeds. If you ever noticed the deck of a parking garage shaking when a car drives by, that is by design.
@Muelb

@@CalgaryHyundai13 The simple answer: A lot of modern parking buildings are built using steel (especially in seismic areas) is more ' elastic ' than concrete. The long answer: google it.

Hi.I am from Malaysia & over here, we never have any earthquakes, tornados, typhoons, hurricanes, volcano eruptions, wild fires etc. Just the occassional floods happening about now which is predictible & happens mostly in coastal areas. Otherwise, its flashfloods happening in the big cities bcoz of clogged drains. We're blessed.

Guys please stop joking around this is not funny 168 people have died so far… this is happening a lot and more people are dying this isn’t the time to joke.its not funny to laugh and stuff just because Japan was a bad country in history. They changed it’s not the people that were bad it was the leader. So please stop making fun of the innocent people that are dying. Also for the people questioning how they are so calm. I’m assuming they are prepared for this so they remain calm and don’t run everywhere because if they do more problems will happen. But yes some have to run but others stay calm and pray that they are safe. They went in a parking spot because it is a the safest place to be Japan has made these parking spaces prepared for earthquakes even if they didn’t it would still be safe.large parking lots are made to withstand lots of shaking. I hope no one else dies but to the 168 people who did may they rest in peace…

This person is holding their phone exceptionally still, standing in place. They may be holding a rail or something? But that would shake too. I'd be wondering if this parking garage would pancake. I doubt one could run out of there. Whew! Scary! Praying Lord be with me.
