Ridiculous. Chances of being struck by lightening is 1 in a million. So for 11 players to be struck by multiple lightning strikes is beyond comprehension. And one or two lightning strikes killing 11 players in unison that are spread out over a football field is either mathematically incalculable or physically impossible. I don't think the entire team sold the game. It's too dumb of a reasoning, as the video stated. I do believe the Nike/Ronaldo angle though and the pressure for him to play. The whole seizure thing probably shook the whole team's confidence and affected their performance.

It's the first time i actually see an extend highlights of ronaldo's match. It looks like the guy on the pitch was a lookalike that could hardly run with the ball on his feet, probably never saw him missing every single touch like it happens in the video, not even when he was 100 kg. Probably all the team was as well very shocked and France was an extremely good team
@AqueleRod2 ай бұрын
Brazilian here, I totally agree with you. A lot of players from this 98 squad are constantly present on TV shows and podcasts in Brazil. They talk A LOT, but nobody has ever said anything different from the official story. Ronaldo had a seizure and it shocked the team, they got really scared and worried about R9's well being before and during the game. No way so many players would agree with something like selling a WC final and they got pretty offended when anyone suggests otherwise. Being a WC champion is worth way more (even financially with future contracts) than the supposed payment... but I don't doubt Nike's pressure to get Ronaldo on the pitch.

My conspiracy theory is that Wayne Rooney has lied about his age. He did not look 16 at all and was literally the best 16yo of all time,, almost like he wasnt actually 16. On top of that he peaked really early too. He declined way too early for how good he was, almost as if he wasnt actually that young. He also balded really quite early too. He still looks considerably older than he is. He either finished puberty when he was like 12 or hes lied. I choose to believe the more fun opinion out the two

Ahahahah! Better than Messi.😂 “The English Pelé” said the British press at the time, overhyping their product, as usual. Complete nonsense. Pelé (who won the WC at 17 let’s not forget it), Maradona, Messi, Ronaldo (Fenómeno) were all very precocious talents and by far better than Rooney, just to name a few. Rooney was a great player indeed, but not in that league.
@danielmcgrath6802 ай бұрын
@@FilJR99 Can't speak on Pele, Maradona or R9. But Rooney was unquestionably better than cr7 at 16 and you can make a strong case for Messi too since he wasnt even playing until he was almost 18. Bearing in mind Rooney was in the Premier League in a very rough era in one of the weaker teams (Everton). Sorry but youre talking nonsense about Rooneys talent. Literally one of the best strikers to ever play the game. When youre trying to tear him down by bringing up the best 3 or 4 best players in the history of the game, maybe its time to give it a rest. I feel foreign fans look down on a lot of English players like Rooney, Scholes, Ashley Cole, when in reality they'd walk in to 99% of teams in any league at any time.

Rooney came in as second fiddle to Van Nistelyrooy, then when he left second fiddle to Ronaldo. Always the sideman, even getting pushed outwide sometimes and still put up similar numbers Owen was class for sure but as you said, for different reasons. 1) I wonder if the reason for this mystery could be to hide who his real mother is. I know, it's fairly common to have players who claim to be younger than they really are, but claiming to be the son of a woman who died years prior? Maybe, the identity of his real mother could cause some problems, and they'd rather keep this a paradox instead of opening a can of worms 2) This could also explain why so many players are casually getting "injured" during international breaks. I mean, how many of those injuries actually took place on the pitch? You usually read news like "X player injured in training" and, while they're plausible, sometimes it makes no sense, especially since they don't even tell you what happened exactly (like "a player tackled him badly" or "he fell on his back") 3) I'm not so sure about the "Brazil was offered the chance of an easy draw and a future World Cup". First of all, the 2002 World Cup had other match scandals, so adding "they favoured Brazil" is just rubbing salt on the wound. Secondly, why would they only get that World Cup 16 years later? Unless there's something like "they already planned on giving Germany the 2006 World Cup and FIFA *really* wanted the 2010 one to be in Africa" 4) This does seem like a bizarre, exaggerated story. Maybe, not *all* 11 players were killed by the strike, or it happened while they were all gathering together at least. To be honest, I've never heard of this, so I don't know what to think of
@Mydigitalepitaph2 ай бұрын
I thought the lightening strike which killed the opposition players was due to the fact that the players were wearing metal studs (it was very normal to have metal studs in the 90s). I guess the other team had plastic studs, which is why they were affected.

The reason I know for sure that the whole seizure story was complete BS is just how well Ronaldo pronounces the world 'convulsion', every time he is asked about what happened. It is as if he has memorised what to say a 1000 times. In the build up to the final, France was scared sh*tless of Ronaldo. Platini - corrupt. Blatter - corrupt. France for a long time had a grip over both FIFA and UEFA. That final was 100% fixed.

Still we know that everything was planned for France to win. FIFA was created in France, the president was French, France was in the finals at home and the rest is history. They did offer Brasil an easier passage for 2002, Brazil did host a cup, and Nike situation with R9 lifetime contract was just about getting him to play.
