"Footprints": the journey of Asia Minor refugees - United Societies of Balkans

“Footprints” is a collaborative documentary filmed in Thessaloniki during the ESC Volunteering Teams project “Health and Heritage: Opportunities for a life change” from June to July 2023. It meticulously traces the journey of Asia Minor refugees, from their arrival at the port of Thessaloniki to their provisional settlement at Acheiropoietos church, culminating in their permanent residence in Ano Poli - Kastroplekta. The documentary ventures into two dimensions, offering the historical context - who, when, where, and why - and delves into the cultural heritage these communities brought with them, encompassing cuisine and customs. By illuminating this monumental exchange, it serves as a poignant reminder of the extraordinary resilience of those who sought refuge amidst unparalleled challenges, emphasizing that the Greek and Turkish nations share more commonalities than disparities.
