Joke of a stadium. The directors box is real ivory tower stuff. Queens Park have great potential being based in Southside to attract new fans and progress as a club. They could have built a proper football stadium, instead they did this.

Could they have bought up Cathkin Park, rebuilt upon it and sold off Lesser Hampden to create more space at Hampden ? Third Lanark Amateurs could then have moved back 'home' to ground share.

Queens Park are my local club and I go see them sometimes. The new stadium is awful and such a waste of potential. Seeing Queens Park in regular Hampden is crap because its way too big. If they build safe standing behind either goal and increased the capacity by a thousand it would be so much better.

The director's stand required demolition of what was the oldest building in football. They got approval for this through an amendment to their Planning Permission and was not part of the original public consultations. Imo, really disappointing to remove that history for the sake of 40 heated seats.
@enzot_562 ай бұрын
That's a myth. It was an actual farmhouse that the club eventually took over because of its location; it was never built as a "football building", and it was falling to bits anyway.
2 ай бұрын
@@enzot_56 to be fair, I think it was QPFC themselves that promoted the idea that this was 'the oldest building in football'. But kind of besides the point, a historic building was lost for the director's stand. The original design and original planning permission didn't require this. Arguably heritage is what makes QPFC special so its short sighted to chip away at it.
@KebabMusicLtd2 ай бұрын
Nostalgia is all very well but impractical. Football clubs need to evolve and like Sam said during this video, if QP had remained as an amateur club, they could have disappeared into the lowland league. So they knocked down an old derelict building. That's progress. If they want history, they could build a museum or put a couple of plaques on a wall.
2 ай бұрын
@@KebabMusicLtdtotally agree, they need to make progress and it seems like they’re making some positive steps in that direction. But retaining the farmhouse wasn’t preventing that. We’re rightly proud of our built heritage in Glasgow, particularly around football, but once it’s gone it’s gone. What did Queens Park fans gain due to the club knocking it down? It’s just heated seats in for the directors.

QP supporter for nearly forty years and it breaks my heart every time I look at the Royal Box. What a total total total disgrace. Evidence, if it were required, is if you look at the spacing of the font on Queen's, above the Royal Box, it was never specified to have an apostrophe. Trivial, I know, but that shows how totally and completely out of touch those that make decision at the club are, they don't even know the name of the club.

Probably not the worst football stadium in Scotland, but it's certainly up there. The chandeliers, heated seats and the leverage on the directors box... I went to see Queens Park v Elgin in the League Cup group stage at the start of last season, and I think that was one of the first matches they played at Lesser Hampden, perhaps even the very first match. Although the facilities are very modern, at the time I was there the stadium did feel slightly unfinished and there was still some ongoing work within the stadium, so it would be interesting to go back and see how things have progressed since then. One thing I do remember was just how loud and clear the tannoy system is there - other stadiums should take note. Have also been in the social club at Lesser Hampden before both of Aberdeen's semi finals last season and the facilities in there are really nice, you can tell Queens Park have spent quite a lot of money building it to a very high standard. Hopefully will be able to go back again soon.

The money came from selling Hampden to the SFA and from their sugar daddy, Willie Haughey of City Refrigeration. Yes, the intention was a permanent move to Lesser Hampden but hapless decision-making left it too small even for the Championship. They've made a roaring arse of every aspect of the club - for example, their women's team have been moved to Stenhousemuir. They're a laughing stock and their fans deserve much better. If you even watch their development team play at Lochinch in Pollok Park you'll see an incredible number of coaches and analysts, guys with cameras and equipment. Their non-playing wage bill must be among the highest in Scotland.

They could have done so much better for Scotland's oldest club. First the SFA forcing them to sell Hampden by blackmailing them with a threat to go to Murrayfield. Then them redeveloping Lesser Hampden by removing a historic building that could have been renovated and giving them a ground with stands along the side that don't go all the way and leaving the ends mostly undeveloped so people can still watch from the hill and not pay. I get that Queen's Park may not have the biggest support but they really could have made it a bit bigger and if they still play most of their games at Hampden, what was the point of the whole exercise other than to give the Scottish national team a new training pitch?

@KebabMusicLtd2 ай бұрын
Why not? English clubs do it all the time. How many EFL clubs have had to play at other teams home grounds due to selling off their own home? They sell their home ground and then take on the lease. It seemed like a shrewd decision for a club that has been historically amateur for most of its existence. Once the SFA opened the league for promotion from the Highland/Lowland League, QP knew they would need some revenue to survive. Perhaps their success of climbing the leagues has been too rapid. So they now have a league two ground hosting Championship football, but they do have some room for building new stands.

We aren’t just changing whenever we feel like though, are we? We were at Lesser at the start of the season to allow the new pitch at Hampden to set, and then agreed to stay out while Rangers were there. We’re only moving there now that it’s available Also it doesn’t really factor in that we should, or shouldn’t be allowed back at Hampden. The SFA want to use Lesser, and we need a bigger capacity ground while organising the temporary stands at Lesser. That’s the deal
