I had the privilege of conversing with Mr Barrassi over a few drinks and i felt the like i was in the presence of history of football the entire time. Adding i grew up around many AFL and VFL greats .

This made me emotional watching this Tribute to the great Ron Barrassi. Well done Footy Show Team and Channel 9. Sam Kekovich was the right man to get on the show to pay homage to Ron. I must admit, i was holding back a tear watching that tribute and then again listening to Sam's testimonial at the end. No greater recoginition received in ones life then hearing your legacy will be rest assured in the passage of time. Vale the one and only Ron Barrassi. R.I.P Legend

Ron, you were our Messiah. Coming from a Roos family, with local roots back to the VFA, the joy, the tears, the pride you brought us all, my Grands in particular, immeasurable. -1975. You will and can never be forgotten. Perhaps a medal should be struck in your name for the best individual performance in any final within the series, for sublime excellence. Never knew about Ron Barassi until that 1996 documentary that was called 100 years of Australian Football League. Barassi was in segments of Norm Smith, Barassi moving from Melbourne to become Captain/Coach of Carlton and then his impact on North Melbourne as their coach during the 70s. (only knew him as Sydney's coach from 93 to 95) It was from that documentary all those years ago did I realize how much of a legend he was.

@@paulmatters2641 I asked my dad how good was barassi he said average! I don't no much about norm Smith so I probably don't have an argument but I'm almost 50 and Alan jeans is the best I've seen! Whenever media talk about greatest coaches it's jeans barrassi Kennedy parkin and I guess there is no recording of norm talking so you may be right! But Alan was if not the best then 2nd would be his spot! No question! He told magnificent stories in a thunderstorm of passionate words that ring like Sunday church bells! 89 grand final before game he insulted dermis family and said your head is on the chopping block! How he sensed cats would go for him is genious! And as dermi was vomiting he said all he heard was Alan's great words echoing in his mind! You either step up or you step down! The rest is history! We had players busted up badley but they still held on! Greatest grand final ever no question of that and greatest win with half your team BUSTED up and 2 in hospital one fighting for life who ran the game out! You don't get any better than that in my opinion! Take care Glenn from fern tree gully!

One of the few men who gave more to the game and league than it had given to him. A true Victorian and Australian legend in not just sport but overall. He once said “It’s a very fine feeling to make your loyalty portable.” when he was asked about who was his favourite club.

The funny thing is that we celebrate Ron (as we should), but if he were a modern day coach he would be completely vilified for being abusive. Just something that came to my mind, there was much more passion in the game back in those days that's for sure.
@shannonpincombe8485 Жыл бұрын
The sanitisation of footy and the wider society has gone too far. Men should be allowed to behave like men. We're not all gentlemen. Some of us just don't have the 'gentle'.
@smoothbeak Жыл бұрын
@@shannonpincombe8485 Yeah, but Barassi seems to have been both, a gentleman as well as someone who expressed his frustrations. Isn't it ironic that men are told to express their emotions whilst also being told that if they do then they're being abusive or overly aggressive?
