movie: Tang taizong had 200 thousand men. Tang died 3 years after the retreat, while warning his men never invade Goguryo. Tang taizong's eye was injured by the arrow. reality: Tang taizong only brought 100 thousand men. Tang taizong died 3 years later, he retreated not because of the casualties, but the time he wasted during the war and it was past mid-autumn. the supply line would be cut off during winter. forcing him to retreat. Tang taizong did regret starting a war with Goguryo, yet he didn't stop invading either. Tang taizong's eye being injured was mentioned in 18th century poems and novels, but was never recorded in historical documents during both Tang dynasty or Three Kingdoms (yes, korea also has three kingdoms period).

A typical Korean patriotic movie. The real history is that the 150,000 Goguryeo army was defeated by the Tang army of only 70,000. Dare not go out of the city wall. The Tang army consisted of Han troops armed to the teeth and Turkic and Mongolian warriors. It was also the most powerful and best-equipped army in Asia at the time. The 150,000 Goguryeo army was defeated by 70,000 Tang troops. 70,000 people were killed and 40,000 were captured. The remaining 40,000 people fled back to Anshi City. The defensive strength of Anshi City is at least 50,000, and it is impossible to have only 5,000. The Tang army plus subsequent reinforcements totaled only 110,000 people. It is not very difficult for 50,000 people to defend a city for 86 days. There were only 110,000 troops attacking the city.
