I am doing a series of care videos for the Encore Azalea website and KZbin channel. This is the first video for that series. Most of what I will be showing in these videos applies to all shrubs, trees, and perennials. Thanks for watching.

Could you create a shrub row out of them? That would be cool, seeing a hedge of azaleas that bloom at different times throughout the year.

Yes, you can. I have a plan to go an Azalea garden that is close to me this spring. You will see them used in a ton of ways there.

Several years ago , a local millionaire hired a college professor to landscape his house. The guy left the plants in the plastic pots when he planted them. You could see the tops of the pots sticking up above the ground. I've been a landscaper for 30+ years and have seen a lot of crazy things people do , but that beat them all.

Thanks for the helpful video! I thought it was hilarious that you showcased the Autumn Fire because today I was on the fence for about 10 minutes at the local nursery deciding on my fourth azalea color between Ember and Fire and ended up going with the former, not the latter. We bought four to replace some of our bottle brush that got nuked in the Texas freeze.

Do you think it will handle the Texas sun? Worried about 110 degree heat but are thinking about doing the same - our bottle brush bit the dust too during the freeze

I was just looking at the Autumn Embers Encore Azalea on an online shopping website and I decided to search KZbin for some reviews on the plant. I came across your review of what sounds like it might be the same plant. I’m curious if this plant that you’ve reviewed is the same as the one with the name “embers” in its name? Either way, it sounds like they probably perform pretty similar. Thanks as always for your very detailed and thoughtful review.

I planted some azaleas a week ago and they are wilted. Looks like they’re dying. What can I do to revive them?
@JimPutnam4 жыл бұрын
If they are watered but still wilting it is best to prune the tips of the branches. They can't get enough water because of the damage that was done to the roots when they were planted.
@noisay19774 жыл бұрын

Hi Jim, What's wrong with having mulch mixed in the soil? I saw you replied to someone that mulch has bunch of wood. What negative effect can wood have in the soil? Thanks!

It ties up nitrogen when it's buried and can yellow your plants. It corrects itself eventually though so no long term damage probably.

Isn't mulch actually just compost? So why not add to the hole to help the richness of the soil? Why buy expensive compost when mulch is very cheap?

The wood in the mulch will rot if buried under soil. It needs air to break down.
