Kimberly from #ForHarriet and #Chrissie have a difference of opinion on what it means to promote black women. The baseline questions are:
1. Is there a space for femininity in the contemporary Black feminism movement? And
2. Should Trans-Women be included in Black feminism?
Kim and Chrissie are speaking past each other. Their conflict creates a beautiful opportunity for them to come together and learn from each other.
I must point out that, as a man, I am uniquely positioned... some would say excluded from this conversation. Yet, I do fundamentally disagree with the notion that a person cannot speak if they are not a part of the group being spoken about. However, I first acknowledge what might seem to be an inappropriate interjection by me and I hope that the message does not get lost because the messenger is male.
We will discuss both women's theories as they express them, in their own words. Then we will analyze for discrepancies and opportunities for coming together. It is my hope that we will have a very robust discussion on this topic. Welcoming everyone to be respectful as we engage in meaningful dialogue.
