I had thought this character's full block would be the first to counter zones. Good thing, too. One Berzerker zone with that T1 and the whole enemy team would have been fully healed.

Just a quick note, you can 100% backstep crushing counter with this character, but the right side light is a little bit less reliable. Maybe because the sup block window is 300ms on openers instead of the usual 200ms, that lets you CC earlier, which might allow you more backwards movement? Either way, the backstep light will whiff and be unparriable if the opponent feints, will hit a feint to GB, and unlike some characters (eg. Kyoshin), if you successfully CC an incoming attack, the light will never whiff (in our testing at least). Because she has recovery cancels into full block and chain CC lights, these backstep lights are super safe as well, only reliably being punished with your own CC light, a deflect (top guard only), or punishing the recovery with a quick bash.

Any character with CC properties can fight off externals. Highlander, Warlord, BP even Afeera been doing it for a long time now.

@@acid1787 That is true, but Varangian's fullblock/counter stance is omnidirectional unlike CC lights and gives a guaranteed 360° counter on all enemies that hit you. A little less strong than BP's but it looks to me as if it'll be more generally applicable and easier to hit perhaps.

I would like to see fullblocks in general get stronger against off target/external shenanigans. Too many fullblocks are finnicky against all the dodge cancels and enhanced attacks, not to mention some character like medjay just hyper armor trade for higher damage.

I don't feel like all of her block stance followups really provide as much value as they should, since you can't fast flow on defense. You have to have some form of advantage or guess from neutral to really pull it off. The light and heavy are fine, it's the zone and bash that don't really meet the standard. I'd like if her zone from the all block stance had armor at least, and if her gut bash from the block did like 10 damage. Either that or give her some window to fast flow during a blockstun gap. A lot of enders are unblockable anyways, but at least you'd be able to catch external heavy mixups from neutral or end berserker's combo if you blocked the zone and could fast flow block the light followup.

Her entire kit is revolving around superior block, so the zones are, unfortunately, an afterthought. Everything is going to be CC-Light/Full Guard into UB Heavy, sprinkled with bashes.

You can CC with her allguard light, and you can feint the allguard heavy.

That's not so bad, right? Big hitboxes have been extremely desirable in Dominion since, well, pretty much the beginning, and at times have been meta-defining. Another hero like Black Prior with a tool to specifically counterplay them does do a little bit of counterbalancing. Will it help small hitbox heroes enough to become viable? Perhaps not, but it seems like a healthy thing regardless.

0:32 you said it lasts for 300ms after 100ms. That means it lasts till 400ms yet it seemed like you were implying it ends at 300ms by showing a freeze-frame at 300ms. I did confirm on for honor info hub and it says it ends at 400ms.

I don’t like the bash 300-500ms for bash startup because to me it always felt clunky. I thought maybe 200ms would be a good middle ground for being able to start the bash

Obviously it's a new hero and will take time to get use to, but what are everyone's thoughts so far fighting the hero? I think giving her double crushing counter lights and superior block dodge attacks was a bit too much when considering she also have a full guard. I was playing nuxia a lot yesterday, and while I'm use to my offense not being respected on that character lol, there is literally no reason a Varangian needs to respect anyone's offense. Literally just cc and dodge on red and you'll probably counter them. What do you all think?

Was super excited for another viking hero but I can't say i am not a little disappointed, was hoping to see something a little more interesting than a hero with a ton of superior lights and an all guard, in ganks it feels like she is going to be super oppressive since you get to eat shit if you attack her all guard and in duels she is gonna be frustrating since it is yet another character with superior lights. Perhaps it is just me but in a normal play session I get hit by superior lights accidentally atleast every other match, having a defensive ability on a fast attack is just fundamentally a bad idea. accidentally getting rewarded because you hit light in the same direction as your opponent 100ms after they did is ridiculous. We had this issue before with deflects where a person just spam dodging things may get rewarded with a deflect by accident, so it required an imput to function, yet they continue with this "rewarded for luck" system with superior lights. Style and coolness she is up there, but im really not looking forward to her being added tomorrow.
