To remind them and other knights who they are, criminals fighting in a war as payment for their freedom. Black Priors followed Vortiger who served Apollyon for the promise of power. When she was killed by the Emperor's Champion they all went into hiding. They come out of hiding to fight *alongside* the knights and are free from their code of chivalry. Meaning they dont follow the same laws and oaths that the other knights do. Which is why they do bad things and arent punished because they help the knights. Meaning only conquerors were ever prisoners.

I agree with exception regarding the "lisp" (?) I don't hear any, in his sentences before it's perfectly sharp. His iconic line at the end is stylized and shouted maybe that's why it sounds a certain way but other than that his "s" is perfectly fine.
