My father has been completely supporting a Filipino family for the last 5 years since 2010. When I say supporting I mean everything, Accommodation, Food, Education, Electricity, Water, the whole lot. It costs him approx. $A1,200 per month and I know for a fact that he sacrifices many of his own lifes day to day things a first world country person generally expects as the norm. He is not religious, in fact he is an Atheist, but when I ask him why he is doing this his answer is, I am a human being, and so are they.

I was told by a Filipino that the government gives contraceptives free of charge. In any event, it is possible to avoid pregnancy without contraceptives if you really want to. I think their a culture expects women to have several pregnancies during their lifetime.

i wonder if any of the film production people come with donations or food for any of the people they film , this is just heart wrenching to me , like while watching this i wished i could hand them food through my computer screen, Honestly i like to think when you watch documentaries like this, they bring lots of supplies for the people they film like food and medical care , but seeing how jello died four months after filming Im starting to think this is not the case, like videos like these are helpful to spread awareness and get people to donate but alot of the time when you see kids hungry , parents not having medicine , you assume the people filming them make sure they dont leave without helping them , if anyone knows how this actually works or has had any experience in this type of work id love to know what actually happens to the people after they are done filming

People who haven't lived in poverty doesn't understand the true meaning of poverty and to live in a country where it's so corrupt that even politicians will make up stories up so they can win the election but never deliver what they say. There are so many years of neglect and still they don't help them out and no matter how many times you try to save people from the slums you cannot save them all because there are so many of them. And for those who don't recognize the culture in the Philippines. Depending if they do a family planning many kids you raise through poverty or in general families, it's actually quite common to raise more than 7 kids because if you have so many children then they can support the parents in the long run. If only one child finishes school and finds a job always through medicine and law then that child is burden to carry everything on their shoulders to support her parents and siblings, which is kind of sad but true.

Regarding support, there will also be times, the family can and will stop supporting family abroad from another country. I know of family members who moved to North America and the non-Asian partners are not always pleased about sending hard earned money back to the Philippines. Filipino people can be kind and caring, but overall, Filipino are not the smartest Asian people academically. They cause their own burdens. Adding to this, we already have North American jobs being sent to the Philippines, so we don't need to send any more money sent back to Asia. Some people who send money back home also find out the money is being abused, will stop sending money, if they have a consciousness of what is best for the family. I don't believe in helping people who don't care to help themselves. This includes people keeping their legs crossed and taking care of themselves! Filipino people are looking for a easy way out by marrying a white man. Only the white man who can't find a good woman in North America due to their own deep personal issues ,think of Filipino woman and think they are submissive, are the ones to take prey to this ''Filipino ideology".

To read some of the comments here sickens me. How human beings can have so much disrespect for others is truly amazing. I live here in Manila and see poverty first hand every day, yet I see happier people here with more manners and care for others than I ever did in England where I lived for 40 years. Maybe it is me, but having watched all 6 episodes, the only thing that made me smile was seeing Jello smile, then finding out he dies sadden me more than anything. Poverty is a way of life, not just here, but all around the world, and for people to preach from behind a computer which cost more than most of these people could ever hope to have in their hand, makes me think that it is people in the most privilaged places that need to be culled first and these poor people to be uplifted. The world would be a nicer place.

Bushmen never live in poverty. Tribal people who were left alone don't live in poverty, they live in a huge jungle, bathe in a big lake and spend their days cutting leaves and hunting animals. They have time to decorate themselves, to sleep, to laugh, and enough food to eat. They don't have dirt around them, they have nature. If you see poor people living in squalid conditions is because they've lost their original lands (taken by multinational companies, or exploited by their own government). I was talking once with an old man and he said that in earlier times, people had a sense of belonging to the nature around them. Contrary to popular belief, africa isn't overpopulated like asia or even europe, except europe is rich and can feed themself.. RD Congo is as big as germany, uk, spain, france put altogether and have only a fraction of the population, while filipines is seven times smaller in surface than congo and have the same population, also take away modern medicine from the bushmen and other amenities and their population will stagnate forever (they had the smallest population of all continents in 1910, before getting colonized and brought in the 20th century, the whole africa had 100m people living in it while germany had like 60m)

there are people that still know and live in nature. especially in canada..it's the basis for a culture that has thrived there for over 15,000 years before the white man showed up with his gods greed and hatred...."bury me while i stand as i've been forced to live on my knees" is what we learned..we were strong enough to keep our culture languages gods cerimonies rights.. we are sovereign people on sovereign land that still live off the land..we know our place in nature and that it ALLOWS us to exist..she provides for us and must be loved protected and treated with respect..

my girlfriend lives in manila near one of the canal like rivers in the pandacan area, it is weird seeing how they live..?? i stay with her and daughter on the street she lives on..!! you do feel sorry for the people on her street and how they live.. we are so luck her in the UK..!!

I give my salutation to the father of Jess Hann. If there are more people like him the world will be out of poverty. The slum in Phillipine is something very new to me and I am sure many of the western world are unaware of it. Hope that more awareness can be brought to the world on the slum in Phollipine so that can be done. It is a shame that the Catholic church do not talk about the poor in Phillipine or South America.

Jello’s mum deserves a medal! Poor woman, I feel so bad and wish that I could help her in some way. The love she had for her disabled boy. Can’t imagine what she must be going through after losing her child. She looked forward to seeing Jello after a hard days work, it was the only thing keeping her going. RIP Jello 💚
