The Philippine Government is doing its best to improve the quality of the lives of these people. Recently, they inaugurated new concrete houses for them. Services can reach them as well like free education from daycare to college. They can also have access to electricity,internet, and potable water. They are also entitled to any cash aid from the government if ever there is a state of calamity (like during COVID19 lockdowns). How about Ethiopia? How do you address poverty in there?
@winchivaree1402 жыл бұрын

Did you know? Reproductive Health law was enacted for them to obtain intercoursal education and family planning? Contraceptives are also free, but how come teenage pregnancy and having many children still rampant in their community? It's because of their mindset that is too obsolete.

Where do they get the strength to face such hardship? The situation seems to have deteriorated considerably since I lived in Manila '65 to '74. - You just have to admire their resilience. A sad situation indeed..

aberserk9 It's not really strength so much as necessity. Think about it, what's the alternative to struggling? You give up and die. When you're put in a situation where you have no choice, you can deal with a lot more than you think.

I saw people so so many happy people in the slums it made me think that material matter did not really matter. I also love the sound of the rooster in the back ground. Here I am 61 years old and just learning about the many hardships endured by these people. I knew there was poverty but not to this degree. I feel very fortunate that I am living a very privileged life. I have so much and live in luxury. These people are so resilient in adjusting to all the obstacles put in their way. Where I would have felt forsaken and lost my faith, they truly keep their faith strong. While I have seen comments about how the Catholic Church turns it's back in helping them out and despite the struggle these people endure because of large families, being unable to provide enough food, medical care and education, the Catholic Church still condones family planning. Catholicism is a religion while God is not a religion. God is known as the Creator. God is not Catholic, Methodist, Anglican, Presbyterian or any other religion. God is not Christian. Jesus was known as the Christ or anointed One. You can be Christian or call yourself Christian if you so choose to follow the teachings of Jesus. You can be Christian without belonging to a religion. God did not create religion, man did. I am Christian because I choose to follow Jesus' teachings but I do not belong to a religion. I belong to God

As a Filipino, it's really interesting to see the comments from other nations. And also, I think the problem is that a lot of people here take the saying "Humayo kayo at magpakarami" or "Go forth and multiply" too LITERALLY. The church actually meant "spread the word of God." so a lot of people will know about God. Not multiply by birth. At least that's what they taught us in elementary school Religious education.

I’m not filipino but I know a lot my filipino friends are not very well versed in the Roman Catholic teaching. They’ve all been baptized but never actually went to Sunday school to learn more about the Catholic faith. Some had taken their communion but none of them went through confirmation. Mind you, I am not filipino nor am I a Catholic. My husband is a non-confirmed Catholic and still doesn’t understand why the church won’t let him do certain things.
