A herd of musk ox on the Siberian Tundra. Plummeting temperatures don't phase them, they are blizzard proof. It's a calf's first taste of winter, and she is protected by the whole herd.

Many animals wouldn't fare well in Siberia's frigid temperatures, but musk ox are built to withstand these conditions. What are your thoughts on their ability to live in this intense cold?

The Muskox (Ovibos moschatus) is a bear-sized bovid native to the northern hemisphere, it is the only extant species of the genus Ovibos, its closest living relative is the Takin (Budorcas taxicolor), this makes both species the only surviving members of the tribe Ovibovini, surprisingly, Ovibovini is one of only three extant tribes that are now belong to a new subfamily known as Ovibovinae, the others being the tribes Hemitragini (Tahrs) and Naemorhedini (Gorals, Serows, Chamoises, and Mountain Goat), it is also hinted that the subfamily Ovibovinae is fairly similar and most closely related to the subfamilies Hippotraginae (Grazing Antelope) and Alcelaphinae (Hartebeests, Wildebeests, Hirola, and Tsessebees).

Zach Elmquist They want to live. Hunters and carnists are the reason extinctions happen. It was just stated they're increasing; inquiring about killing them is strange. Let the oxen, their ***natural*** predators, and animals in general thrive.

Why do you think their population got decreased in the first place? Many big animals got almost extinct due to mass hunting. Opps: didn't realize your initial comment was 4 years ago. This just popped up in my rec.
