i have loved justin since the very first time my friend introduced me to his music. blue october is by far the best band ever!! i love all his songs...and especially "for my brother'...i know he hasn't lost his brother. it's pretty obvious, when he has him come up and sing the song with him....however, i lost my brother july 23, 1998. (heroin overdose..) so, i love this song and have thought of my brother since the first time i heard the song. my brother was and still is my very best friend...this song is great!! yep, i cry most of the times i listen to it...but. Losing someone is never easy. When i lost my bestfriend, who was a brother to me, my big brother told me something that has stuck in my head since then. He told me I have to live for my best friend now. Those few words have been extremely helpful to me. Now, even though I'm just some random guy on the internet, if you've lost someone that close to you, or anyone at all you care about, you have to remember that. Never give up. Live for them to. Wow. I have always believed music is what feelings sound like. My baby brother was murdered in 05, and not a day goes by where I don't think of him. We had a far from normal, hardly more bitter than death its self kind of childhood, but no matter what was going on he would make the best of it and find the positive in any situation. I haven't really lost my brother, but I was effectively the closest thing he had to a father, and he kept me waking up each and every day. He was the motivation I had to live through the motivational and physical abuse I have suffered from both of my parents, and I will continue to live my life now that I have left that abusive house, so that he can have an older brother who loves him to no end. I hope I am able to be the bigger brother in this song and help him through any hard times he has in the future because he has helped me through some of my worst times just by existing (he is 2 now and I'm 17 and have recently moved out and contacted social services for help and guidance)

Zprofesser I know it's long, but if this song evokes a strong emotional response in you, I think you'll appreciate reading this. The thing I'm most proud of so far in life is sticking by my older brother when he was addicted to meth. It was hard on all of us, but we kept trying because we knew he had a good heart. For a while, he lived in an apartment complex that was overrun with drug addicts. I couldn't believe such a place existed tbh. I still visited and just tried to find things to do with him like cards and video games. Every now and then I would force a small heart to heart. I even built him a computer so he could play games to occupy his time hoping he would stay out of trouble. Every time I went there I was on edge, and because I was clean everyone looked at me like I was a cop, and I got asked if I was more times than I can count. One time my brothers dealer/friend came and knocked on the door, hard. He was roughly 6' 2", me and my brother are 5' 9". My brother told me it would be fine, just wait inside. I waited inside, trying to listen to their encounter. It was heated. After hearing a thump, I looked out of the window to see my brother being choked and pinned against the hood of a car. He had been overpowered, full stop. I'm sure he asked for it. Before I could think, though, I was out there threatening this guys life. This guy was also my brothers "best" friend, btw. Immediately my brother said "If my brother's fighting you, I'm fighting you." With the two of us staring him down side by side, he backed off. I was ready to kill him, had he made a move. Instead, he walked away. That was the last time I saw him. I'll never forget that moment. I don't know if it reads well, but that moment was very powerful for both of us. Our bond was strengthened ten-fold without any words towards each other. Not long after, my brother moved home and sobered up. In addition to other efforts by me and my family, I think that moment had a major impact on him. I think he realized who was who, who was on his side, and what was important. Today he's been drug free for 5 years, has 3 kids and has graduated college. I couldn't be more proud of him. It's really funny seeing him turn into a dad, of all things. The entire experience taught me so many things, but two stick out: 1) Brothers who stick together can't be broken. "For my brother who keeps me sane" is apt. Also, judging each other only widens the gap and breeds contempt. Understanding what drives a person without judging allows you to give advice suitable to the situation, and the other person just might listen. We're all shitty people sometimes, just in different circumstances. Some circumstances turn bad decisions into major mistakes, but it doesn't change who the person is. 2)Treat people according to their heart condition. If you follow this simple rule, you'll find yourself surrounded by people you can trust. People who will fight for you. People who will help when you need it. People with good hearts can adopt each other into an extended family, all brothers and sisters. These are people who don't "keep score", expecting things in return for favors or expecting undue recompense for the kind of unperceived slights we all commit against each other on a regular basis. They forgive, forget, and offer their shirts without thinking. These are the people you want in your life. Frankly, a good heart is all that matters. If someone has a good heart, help them. Together we can be stronger than the corruption that so strongly influences our society. All we need is each other, and trust.

My best friend is like a brother to me. Idk what I would do if I lost him. He wants to be in the Air Force when we get done with school. He dislocated his knee last night and went to the hospital and everything. Then after that, he did wat every good soldier does and got out there and marched with our school band. My best friend is a lot like a brother to me in a lot of ways. He enlisted in the Marines a few years ago and wrote me often during basic. He ended all of his letters to me with "With a broken heart and a straight face.." My replies always finished that lyric, "I'm sayin' brother, help me."
