The Grim Reapers organized the 2021 DCS International Film Festival for which I submitted this piece. The winners were revealed on their live stream. I was surprised and happy to hear that I was credited the award for 'Best Voice Acting'.
Initially I wrote a script for my film, but I scrapped the whole thing and started over because I felt restricted by it. I needed to feel the emotion in order to get the lines and narrative right, so I made up the story and narrative along the way.
This fictional DCS World short film is a monolog of a pilot who's passion for aviation drove him to become an air force pilot. He reflects back upon his life to question the morale of war and discovers that all the killing he did corrupted him.

You know what I like about this video? How the voice actor actually states facts. I am not a pilot.. but you shoot down people, carpet bomb people, rocket strike.. whatever.. you kill people, to keep your people safe. You don't know if they are a father of a family, and they don't know you are a father of a family. This one feels just.. so realistic. Made with how it is in real life in mind

It’s something that I feel when I shot down a plane in DCS and the pilot doesn’t eject out of the cockpit, I never got to see him, yet I already took his life, I feel like flying is such a beautiful thing, until you realize you wasn’t just flying, but you’re taking parts out of somebody’s life.

I flew in Falcon 4.0 / BMS and RedViper ...... I had flown in a Squadron for 6 years I have an Original Cougar Hotas Stock but well keep and works till this day ... You words and this Vid makes me want to after 4 years jump back in the cockpit and --- For the Thrill --- do it once again ... I still have my kneepad and tac reference sheets ... You really nailed the story with this one. Many of these films lack any "thought" or "message" put into them, this one being a nice execption I really enjoyed. Also, the cinematics were on point. The only thing that kind of ruined it for me, and this is kind of weird to say, was the voice acting. Don't take that personally, I know how hard it is to record a quality commentary. But it sounds like the pilot speaking is having a soap-opera style mental breakdown, sounding like he is forced to cry by someone. It... just sounds unnatural. If he just spoke a bit more natural, personal, more normal, I think this would be a well deserved winner.

I actually realy like that voice style like having a mental breakdown and it is perfect for his thought's, feels and the message he's sending. He did wanted and achieved to touch the sky and fly best planes there but didn't wanted to kill, that's what's killing HIM Actually I think lot of the true aviators are thinking like that. They are not killer's they just want to fly best plane's

The voice acting is over the top and comes off as a strain in the voice. Pushing the words out and not letting them flow naturally may be an issue. I also could not understand if it was a gamer speaking symbolically in metaphor or an actor pretending to experience war. I was certain though that is was not real but simulated experience with false emotions. This is a micro criticism about suspension of disbelief. It was a well put together piece my 'IMO' is about the voice acting. The writing also may contribute to my confusion as a viewer.
