The second TD to Hill was about 50 yards in the air. Maybe not as far as Herbert or Allen could throw it, but like Dan Marino said, "distance is overrated". Arm strength and accuracy are what's important, and Tua has those all day.
@ddw396811 ай бұрын
Wow, they throw it further
@marksmith434611 ай бұрын
Tua saw the safety trying to get back so put it beyond the corner but outside on that second TD. That is what most of his throws are, put it in the spot dictated by the defense and he expects his guy to get it. Never tries to just push it in the narrow window, but throws it with anticipation to the open window, even if it is a 50+ yarder with YAC added.

I grew up watching Marino, Man is a LEGEND. I saw him make insane throws, and I saw him make horrible under throws too. But Tua reminds me a lot of Marino with this insanely fast 2.1 second release. His football IQ is so high and his accuracy is maybe the best in the league. Yea he does not have the deep throws like Josh Allen for sure, he can't throw a 50 yard sideline pass like its a quick out but there is a reason this offense is so good, boy is balling.

One of the great things about the McDaniel system and how well Tua fits it is that helps out the offensive line. Tua hits his back foot on 3 step drops and throws it 20-40 yards downfield in under 2.5 seconds because with the pre snap motion Hill and Waddle can get clean releases and get downfield so fast. When McDaniel got the job and started watching tape on Tua he saw the anticipation, quick release and accuracy and that he could make all the throws in his offense. He did a cut up of Tua's throws and called everybody on his staff into a meeting to take them through it. He told them forget all the past conversation around this guy, he is going to be great in this system.@@chrisscott2009

The biggest change I've seen in Tua versus a couple of years ago that suggests his hip is fully recovered is that his quickness and strength in small spaces is all the way back. He was classified as a dual threat QB coming out of high school. He also seems to have learned when to give up on plays and throw the ball away. Most of his injuries came when he was scrambling and holding the ball too long trying to make a play that wasn't there, and a defender hit or rolled up on him when he wasn't in a position to protect himself.

Yeah, I think both Allen and Herbert (and a lot of other guys with huge arms) are more see the receiver open then throw the ball type QBs. Tua throws the ball earlier. I've seen Herbert going through progressions and passing up throws that Tua would make where you have to float the ball out ahead of a receiver who is covered but will come open. Herbert checks the ball down so much. Look at his yards per pass attempt versus Tua. And it's not like Herbert has been throwing to bums. This makes him a pretty good to better QB. Staying healthy is another matter. So far, so good this year, and he is playing smarter.

Tua can throw it 60 yards. One of his TDs to Hill last season in the Baltimore comeback win where he threw for over 400 was a little more than 60 air yards. But unless a rusher is immediately in his face, Tua hits his back foot and throws the ball so early he rarely has to throw it that far. There are maybe 5 passes a year in the whole NFL that are completed that are 60 air yards or more. Offensive line play around the league is so bad now that I'm seeing fewer deep throws than ever, and I've been watching the NFL since the 1960's.

Tyreek said after that second long TD he was on Tua afterwards for throwing it over the wrong shoulder, then realized (probably from looking at the replay) that Tua threw it exactly to the spot where he's supposed to throw it, so he's taking the receiver away from the safety in the middle of the field. Tyreek angled a bit too far inside as he was running the route but made a great adjustment to the ball. That's the stuff we often don't know when we see a ball that looks like it was off target - what is the play design and where is the receiver supposed to be? The QB has to release the ball well before the receiver gets to the spot, particularly on a deep ball to somebody as fast as Tyreek.

The NFL considers 20 yards or more deep. But the reason why people say that Tua can't through deep. Is because what they consider deep is different. The way most people determine what's a deep pass and what's not is by what they see on TV. Because the passes on TV look way shorter than they actually are. So that's why people consider 40+ yards more of a deep pass than a 20 to 30-yard pass. That's one of the reasons why you have "sports analysts" on TV saying all those things.

At the moment Tua’s tied with Mayfield and Purdy with 9 40+ completions. So even if most of those were mostly YAC (as they probably are for Purdy), nobody completes that many 40, let alone 60 yard passes. So how you throw 20-30 yard passes is much more important anyway.

You're falling into the same trap with Purdy as people do with Tua, assuming that they are mostly yards after the catch in their offensive systems with the playmakers they have. Purdy is #1 in average air yards per pass attempt at 9.6 and Tua is #2 at 8.5. In the Shanahan and McDaniel offenses the QB gets the ball out quickly and throws it downfield because of play design and all the pre snap motion.@@yitwailu2

the best thing is people hating that tyreek is having his best season with tua

First one was under thrown but it gave him confidence to hit the others. It's a confidence issue.

He threw it well before Hill beat his man. Can't be perfect on those because he could be slowed by the dB. The early release made it impossible to defend.

Cant throw accurately at far but not many can...However he has Hill who will always be behind so he can overthrow it and have him adjust
@Don-md6wn11 ай бұрын
By definition, if you overthrow the ball the receiver can't adjust. If the receiver can catch the ball without leaving his feet the ball wasn't overthrown.
